    Default Turks vs. Mongols, help!

    Welcome all,

I started out my campaign as the turks (H and H) and was doing a lot better than i expected taking over the that whole region and soon controling everything in the whole 'middle-east' section.
I was making tons and tons of money, and sending out large stacks of horse archers with ottoman infantry.
Then the mongols arrived and took out Tibilisi and Yerevan, which i had figured would happen. Anyway, trebizond is still mine and i mobolized a total army of 5 full stacks.. 4 of them guarding the bridge near Mosul, and 1 up in the mountains near trebizond harrassing the mongols. Problem is that the mongols never face me Stack to Stack.. they always have an extra full stack re-inforcement army out of no where. I am trying to whittle them down and... but i was hoping the mongols would try to cross the bridge and my 4 stacks of defenders would save the day.
All they seem to be doing is hiding up in the mountains and moving around a bit.,.but they have left Tibilisi and Yerevan as "Rebel"..and they aren't moving.

I have another full 1.5 stack boat army that i sent out to take over Cordoba but.. all these armies (plus the full garrison's i have in mosul, baghdad and constantinople) are putting me at a negative income. . I also have the catholics crusading towards Constantinople.. I don't know what to do to get the mongols to , well, invade like they are supposed to? lol.. sif i don't disband some of my armies or sack a new city (Which i usually DON"T do) i won't be able to get out of the negative money.

Is there any tricks or advise you guys have to beat the mongols ? . I want them to attack me so i can atleast cut them down a bit.. I don't want them to steam-roll my Holy Land (holy CASH COW) provinces!

Just finished a campaigns as the Turks, on M/VH. When it comes to the Mongols, you have to fight a WWII style war of attrition. You already have several full stacks, so thats good. Make sure the nearby castles eg Mosul, Trebizond, Aleppo etc are able to keep your armies full. If you are in debt, either quickly sack some places elsewhere or give up on some fronts and disband your armies there. The sooner you take out the Mongols the sooner you can get back to expanding elsewhere.

In my campaign, the area around Yereven was so heavily defended that the Mongols hung around for ages, before going and taking Antioch, and were defeated shortly after. The war against them lasted for over 60 turns, so be prepared to spend a lot on army upkeep.

The two great weapons as the Turks for fighting the Mongols are Qapukulu and Janissary Archers. Qapukulu can match any Mongol cavalry, they have great stamina, and their AP maces cannot be over-emphasised - they really take out those Mongol Heavy Lancers. And the Janissary Archers have stakes. Use them. And BTW, you get the Janissaries from one of the top level city barracks. Get Qapukulu from the top level stables.

Just keep fighting them and keep wearing them down, luring them to river crossing where possible. If you can keep your troop numbers up, you'll beat them eventually.

    Good luck...

Well i've never actually trained any Naffatun, i remember in the first MTW game that they were just totally garbage lol. So i kinda figured to train what i felt were more useful units..
Are they a lot better now then?

Well to be frank The Turks was one of my favorites to play...played long campagine on VH/VH and the Mongols attacked me near Yerevan...lost that town and they went down to get reinforcements near Baghdad. At this point i had a large town in baghdad with 2 units of janisary archers (my Antioch town was huge by this time and had produced a lot of this type of archers) 8 janisary heavy infantry and the rest Saracen militia. When i saw where they were going i quickly made a full stack of Sipahis from mosul and baghdad and went head on with 4 full stacks of mongols(yeas suicide but this drove the mongols crazy and attacked me in force in Baghdad). I stood there for the siege and waited for them to assault, which they did, i placed stakes with the janisary archers in front of the gate, when they charged the gate most of the Mongol Cavalery died before even engaging my units and then the fun part started my JHI(janisary heavy infantry) made butchers work of those mongolian infantry. Then it gets repetitive they will come again and again...the outcome will be the same...Heroic Victory.

Hint: Janisary Heavy Infantry is easy to produce just need the Dar-im-ala or something like that it's the town hall before the sultan's palace so you can build it before getting huge walls.

    Good luck with your campaign.

You have to trust your reinforcements. Attack so that you have three armies against to of them. Use all cavalry armies (1 gen, 5 - 6 Quapukulu and the rest HAs). You can use old generals as extra heavy cavalry. Let them die in a blaze of glory. I used this strategy and focused on the battlefield on the Mongol generals. They have to die! Using four stacks of my own with fresh troops and inexperienced generals I defeated 4 and a 1/2 Mongol stacks (see my sig) in a couple of battles. I lost only one battle. Have fun and enjoy the view of a screen full of galloping, charging cavalry.
