Thread: Carthaginians not starting battle

    Default Carthaginians not starting battle

So, the Carthaginians are besieging my castle, everything fine and dandy till now. But when the battle begins, they don't actually move, although they can attack the walls. Also, once in a while a client ruler becomes "Uncomfortable supervisor" or something like that, telling me that he moved out of the town (although I can't and didn't move him).

    The savegame is at http://www.axifile.com?3744483

Take note that the Carthaginians might continue besieging without attacking after loading the save game (it happened a few times).

    Thank you.

Well i believe this is a known bug. IIRC it's a vanilla a bug and can't be fixed.
I also believe that you client ruler gets this trait becouse his city is small. The description it's a bit off there

Client rulers shouldn't be getting uncomfortable supervisor, and it should not happen in the next release.

The problem with the siege is that they think they can take the city on the strat map, then when the battle starts they change their mind. It is a weird RTW bug.

Try starting the battle and not rearranging your troops, just have them in their default location. Then, after starting the battle, don't make a move or let your missile units attack, just wait for the AI to move first. Sometimes the AI gets 'scared' by a move or deployment you make. Though, most likely you'll just have to hit triple speed and leave the room to get past the thing.

I notice this usually happens to me after the enemy takes a few casualties rather than just by moving my own troops, I would say the advice is sound though, the AI certainly gets cold feet sometimes after its lost a few men, so best bet is to leave them alone until theyre in a position where you can (try to) slaughter them. The problem stopped for me recently though, the AI still gets cold feet but at least now it retreats from the field rather than just sitting out the battle timer, perhaps something to do with the BI.exe?
    Cheers

It usually disappears on the next turn, but it happens again a few turns later.

Well, the first time it happened, the AI did not get "scared". It moved the slingers and started attacking my troops, but the rest of its gang did absolutelly nothing. It didn't even move the elephants.

Did you kill all of their slingers? Because sometimes the AI has a plan and if you kill the first part of their plan, they just stall.

Things like this are very evident if you are defending a bridge, for example, and kill all the enemy's archers before their infantry attacks. This will stall the enemy on the other side of the bridge and they'll never attack you.

No, the slingers retreated after a while. And then i had to fastforward through the rest of the battle (35 min, nasty). But shouldn't the AI attack the walls at the same time? What kind of strategy is it using?

An artificial one. It's hard to program in all the contingencies.
