Thread: Greatest comebacks

    Default Greatest comebacks

the Lusotani in my current Romani game started as Carthaginian vassals sometime around 240s. around 220s I started the 2 Punic War and invaded Carthaginian Iberia(Carthage btw owns almost all of Iberia apart from Tyde and Baikor and all of Africa upto Lepki). Within 2 years I conquer Emporion, Arse, Gader, Sucum-Murgi and Mastia. Meanwhile I also land with those armies in Northern Africa. The accompanying diplomats contact Lusotani hoping to lure them into a war against Carthage. A map exchange showed that during those two years they manage to capture Carthaginian Iberian possesions!

Intrigued I send diplomats to Middle East which belongs to the Ptolemies. They own Asia minor, Syria and Egypt and some of Babylon. They destroyed Pontus. A quick map exchange and I soon find that the AS are counterattacking and have reached Antiocheia already!

Well once macedon did this in my ptoly campaign. They were kicked out of the peloponessos, and they held only demetrias, lesbos and chalkis for a while, but then they managed to defeat both KH and the Epirotes.

But most of the time, once a faction starts losing a war, they actually lose it

A brief recount of a similar, but not as drastic, a tale as SaberHRE. In my current Romani campaign, I've been expanding historically, meaning that sometimes I leave factions alive once I've taken my historical provinces. This nearly proved my un-doing when I invaded the Greek pennisula. I suffered my most serious setbacks yet, but in true Roman fashion, I kept cranking the legions out. Epirus was soundly defeated, as was Macedonia and KH. As I mopped up Achaea (old KH territory), who comes storming out of the north?? The Epirieotos (sp). Stack after stack. It took some deft manuverings (lesser men call it running away) and the timely arrival of the new Consul with his chevroned Consular Army.

Apparently - distracted by the rich Polis of the south - I had ignored the re-building of my Green Foes. When I arrived, they had 4 territories. I thought they had 1 left when I finally turned my armies south. Come to find, after my conquest of their cities, they had taken 4 more territories to the North. Now they had 5 cities!! And Armies to match.

Thus far, it is the greatest comeback I've experienced in my campaigns.

In my Hayasdan game I took the Makedonia holdings in Asia Minor. It wasn't too long before Epeiros, Getai and KH had them down to Thessalikoi with a tiny army with a few family members and was being sieged by one of their 3 foes every turn for about 10 years. They made one hell of a come back taking all of Greece except Sparta leaving KH on their last legs and under siege. Epeiros was sent scurrying into Illiria and the Getai are now back in their home lands with Makedonia knocking. It was the most impressive comeback I've yet to see from the AI. Not sure if it was because I was playing on Hard.

The Lusotani tend to bide their time for a long while in my campaigns, and if I leave Iberia alone, they eventually gather enough armies to get rid of Carthage once and for all, even if they start their war with only one province. I wonder what is the reason for that.

In my Romani campaign I took Greece from KH around 200 BC. They were left with only one city in Krimea that revolted to them from the Gatai and one FM. After a few years Sinope and Halikarnassos revolted to them to, and that started their comeback. They took the other Krimean city, than Olbia, Kallatis, Naissos, Buridava and Sarmizegethusa from the Getai and later Tylis and Byzantion from the Maks. The cities in Asia Minor were reconqurede by their previous owners and then revolted to KH at least twice during that time. So now KH is a major power in the Black Sea region.

    Damn, that sounds impressive!

In the very same campaign in which I noticed the Lusitani comeback, I've witnessed the carthaginian comeback. After I conquered all up to Adrumeto, I decided to finally put an end to Carthage and challenged, rather recklessly, their last full stack army. Unfortunately, it turned out the army was a veteran force from Carthago-Ptolemies wars. Some 9 silver chevron Elite African Pikemen, rest being silver chevron elite african infantry and a few sacred band cavalry and infantry. The worst thing is that despite inflicting heavy loss on them, they're basically unbeatable. And funnily I though of killing the 8 star general Hannibal, who lead them, but after killing all his bodyguards they guy just somehow sank into the pikemen lines and there is no way to kill him . I soon plan to ship out the Romani-counterpart, a whole silver chevron consular army.

The Maks often make comebacks, in my Saka-Rauka campaign they were down to just Mytilene, but from there took back all of Greece and most of the Balkans, wiping out the KH and Epirotes in the process.
Another comebacker is the Sauromatae, I´ve seen them down to 2 towns but still come back and take something like 10 regions.
Also, in my Romani campaign where I only take the VC´s I had the Getai down to 1 single region and without nearly any army at all. Sadly I couldn´t finish the bastards off, as I´d already raided that Sarmisz town. Now 30 years later they hold 9 regions are constantly attacking over the Danube. I´m starting to get really worried.

I don't come here a lot any more. You know why? Because you suck. That's right, I'm talking to you. Your annoying attitude, bad grammar, illogical arguments, false beliefs and pathetic attempts at humour have driven me and many other nice people from this forum. You should feel ashamed. Report here at once to recieve your punishment. Scumbag.
