Thread: No game "ending" after conquering everything?

Default No game "ending" after conquering everything?

    Hey all,

I just finished my first campaign of "vanilla" medieval total war II.

I was Spain, conquered the first 45 regions in the time limit then went beyond the time limit to conquer the rest of it.

After I took all the regions including Rome and killed the Mongols and Timurids I was expecting something to happen (like a pop up movie or something) saying I won.

That didn't happen so I was disappointed I spent all that time to conquer everything for no ending.

The rebels and papal states still remain but I don't know how to kill them.

    Anyone know what is up?

    Thanks
    Chadness3

if you conquer the 106 old world provinces I believe there is an additional small victory screen, and if the player conquers the new world entirely as well, then you might get another one too. I am not sure as Ive never been to the new world and have no interest in doing so.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Whats the point? All that wasted time and effort... the war is long over. You win. The aztecs are nothing more than a sea of glorified peasant militia and all it takes are a few horsies to win.

If you manage to survive long enough to beat the aztecs then face it, the computer cannot beat you, plain and simple.

Beating the rebels is easy, leave no rebel provinces remaining.

As for the papal states, I've never seen them destroyed, but I have seen them have no provinces, no pope, no cardinals, and no priests. kind of hard to have a catholic papal state when there is no more catholic church.

    PS-

According to my war for independence challenge (conquer the entire world, but except for 10 territories, leave everything to the rebels, defeat the aztecs, timurids, and mongols, and then kill off your own family and make the entire map rebel) the rebels actually have a victory condition. I'm sure if you ask Ramses II CP to post the screenshot you can have a laugh at their victory screen, as it was NEVER intended to be ever seen.

I don't remember any victory announcement after conquering all provinces in vanilla 1.2. But then I have trouble remembering my kids' names.

Chadness, did you capture Grenada as well? That is a req I believe in short campaign.

Theres a cutscene for discovery of the New World and 1 for when you 1st encounter the Aztec. No victory movie from what Ive seen.

The Aztecs are fun to fight...and the cities of the New World are exceedingly
rich! Plus you can make Missokukee or another city ur capital and boost ur euro trade alot.I can see your point ATPG about if you are in the New World youve pretty much won... but thats not always the case. Depends on what kinda game you are playing. I kinda tired of playing pretty much the same game over and over (conquer everything fast) so I mix it up.

For example, I have a scenario of the Scots who have taken only the british isles and the new world. Also the Portugese with only New World,Lisbon,Toledo, and Leon. In this situations, the AI has become nearly as unbeatable as you are with 2-4 factions having control over most of the world and the battles become more "epic" as you both can afford great loss. Obviously you arent going to win (victory conditions) like this as youll mostlikely run out of time... but it makes it quite fun to play as you can mimick history along the way.Kinda like a civ game at this point..but still..

@kadagar AV-I came up with the idea of Total War for Independence, but only Ramses actually finished the campaign. Read the entire thread. It's quite ingenious.

Heh, if you don't want to tax your connection with the AAR linked in my sig (Tyranny's End) I'll post the screenshots here:

I never did post my campaign notes from that one. I ran out of steam trying to organize them; maybe I'll revisit it sometime.

The AAR thread of Ramses' campaign is in his sig entitled Tyranny's End.

I'm nominating him for a 2008 org award for it. In 2009 that is.
