can't add saxons to custom battles?

I'm working on a saxons minimod (for personal use but if anyone wants to download it when it's done send me a pm) and I changed descr_sm_factions to allow the saxons to be played in custom battles by adding yes next to custom battle availbility but for some reason when I went to start a custom battle the saxons weren't playable. I even tried disabling a couple of factions but with no success. this always worked in RTW with the rebels, I don't know why it's not working with the saxons in medieval II. Any Help would be appreciated.

would someone please help me out? I really want to add them so I can test some of the units I added for them to make sure they're not invisible.
