Default I think my soldiers might be bugged...

When i sometimes go into battles, i may charge some spearmen into a crowd of peasants, but they usually break off into two groups, one group of about 15 spearmen run in, whilst the rest dawdle around holding their spears.
Im not sure if everybody gets these, buts its really annoying to see parts of my army massacred by peasants. I just wanna know if this has happened to anybody else and if they know of any mods to stop this

You need to tell them to attack when they are farther away. When you give a charge order, the first line starts running first. If they are far away the rest of the group will catch up, but if the enemy is real close, the first line will be in combat before the rest of the unit catches up, and once any member of the unit is in combat, the rest of the unit stops running and walks VERY slowly.

Also you shouldn't feel too bad about peasants killing your men, they have bad morale and run away easily, but while they are fighting they can definitely kill other weak units. Well, the western europe ones can, the eastern europe/middle east peasants are much worse.

Infantry charges are so difficult to pull off. I hardly ever seem to get the benefit of charging infantry, and for two-hander units charging is the main advantage.

As Reise suggests, distance is important and it helps a lot if your unit is facing the right way when you give the order. Infantry (and to a large extent cavalry) hardly ever charge in street battles. Should you always double-click attack?

Anyone else got tips on making successful infantry charges?

Whatever the AI does, do that, because its infantry seem to charge all the time very effectively - moreso than its cavalry. I think Reise is correct and you need to have them charge from farther away. Cavalry is easy to guage because they lower their pointy sticks but I am clueless as to what the infantry does. I play with the sound off so if there is some kind of bugle or rebel yell I am unaware of it. Anyone know how to tell just when the infantry switch into charge formation?

I always seem to lose most of my infantry taking crappy settlements at the start like york and flourence, my soldiers dont have to run far to be in combat with the enemy spears do i get the point thanks

My comment applied to all attack orders and not necessarily only double-click charge orders. If the enemy is very close and you single-click attack, your unit will charge anyway, triggering the problem I described..
