are there any bonuses of turning to christianity?

i have never built any churches yet but i have accepted trade agreements with portugal and holland.

going christian in the game is basically pointless
it is very costly and the churches take too long

In theory, you are supposed to get guns faster. Originally warrior monks should have lost some of their strenght against christians in battle. But In practice it just slows you down, having to build churches, priests, watching for religious revolt in your provinces etc... (you do get more koku once a cathedral is built, but you need to build 6 churches to get that). Mind you as a game experience it can be quite fun, having your priests explose and all (one of the cut scenes).

in every campaign game i've played, you never take the first offer to convert. i forget if that's the portugese or the other. it comes at too high a cost. but i always take the other country and it seems to help a bit. read the docs in the game to see how.

Since CA/DT still has a couple of suprises up their collective sleeves regarding the expansion pack/Warlords edition, maybe this is one of the areas of the game that they have addressed.
