What battles have you pwned in???

Aside from my other post, i was wondering which battles you have pwned in. Personally for me in was in the siege of Angers. I had about 5 units of dismounted feudal knights, 4 units of mailed knights, 2 catapult units and 5 units of highland archers with 2 units of peasant archers. In this battle i used my new Crown formation, 3 mailed knight units to lead, in wedge formation, followed by 5 units of dismounted feudal knights, then another group of mailed knights (the general is in that, but he wasnt a family member when i created it) The point of this is to create several chinks in the enemies frontline for your heavy troops to tear apart. When the chinks are made, you pull out your horses and shatter the remaining resistance with your heavy troops, if you are heavily outnumbered this may not work, but it did for me when i was outnumber on that particular battle by about 400 soldiers....
My dismounted feudal knights literally tore apart the remaining resistance, and then when the enemy was close to routing, i let my general attack them and there was a chain of mass routs. I think the deaths for them were about 1000, me with roughly 200. In this battle the majority of the troops on the enemies side were actually spears, spears and heavily upgraded swordsmen, ill have to try the formation in different situations to see what happens....

Well back to the point, the first 10 minutes of the battle were mainly me watching entranced as my catapult stood infront of my gate killing all of the enemy soldiers who were to idle to come and finish it off. I think the catapult was the units to cause the most casualties in that battle...

in Broken Cresent i had a battle against the turks where my byzantine of 800 or so men fought off more than 2000 turks. By the end of the battle the only men left were about 40 spearmen in about 5 small units, 8 katanks, and 12 bodyguards. It was the battle that turned the tide of the war. After that they never recovered and i quickly took most of their territory.

...but all my men were militia and mercs with the plague, while all of his were 3x bronze experience heavy infantry and heavy cavalry.

So I caught them in an ambush, and smashed my cavalry into them over and over again so that by the time the remainder of his troops, who were still vastly superior to my own, reached my spear formation they were well tenderized and ready to break. A series of charges into their rear while they were slaughtering my spearmen broke them at last.

The idea of a bunch of militia with the plague ambushing a professional, experienced Danish field army and crushing it... sheer joy. Not great numbers or anything, but fun. I might still have a screenshot of the Aztec fight where I lost ~10 men and killed about 2500, but the Aztecs are such a joke it's not really worth posting.

Another battle in angers, this time my peasant and highland archers sent the entire enemy unit of dismounted feudal knights routing in melee, i couldnt believe my luck

The mighty naval battle between the scottish and english still occur, but the english have deployed there soldiers to the south to destroy the spanish so im gonna take caen rennes, angers and much more :)

Last night I attempted to run a general with 28 bodyguards through a rebel militia spear unit and onto a peasant archer unit. The bulk of the bodyguards made it through and went after the archers but the silly general stayed and would not leave. He became a room temperature pin cushion. I reloaded.

My greatest battle wasnt a particularly surprising one. I was playing as spain, and milan kept pissing me off so i sent a half stack of knights into them (fairly expensive but it turned out to pay for itself). So after winning a few minor battles, milan throws a full stack at me but it turns out it was just a bunch of archers with a few heavy units backing them up.

No surprise what happened to them, they got massacred since well, archers cant really handle knights when the heavy infantry they did have where scattered. It wasnt some epic strugge or anything but seeing countless enemy soldiers get thrown around like that was fun.

This isnt really that good of a victory, but i did hold Castle Town from Scotland, they brought in 4 units of higlanders, 2 units of highland archers and 2 units of spear militia, and i managed to hold them off with a group off with 2 groups of viking raider and some archer peasant militia

I managed to make the fight stay within a cramped alleyway, but my forces were spread out unevenly, and pretty sonn they broke through one end, but hen my archers just filled them up with arrowss, and the scots still decided to try and kill my remaining infantry, i think the only reason my viking raiders didnt break was beacause they had a general with them...

A couple nights ago I attack a stack of HRE troops on their way to reinforce Nuremberg. Their forces comprised of 2 heavy cavalry units, 4-5 spear militia, 4 crossbow unit, 2-3 light infantry, 1 heavy infantry and a ballista. My forces comprised of 5 longbowmen, 2 Armoured sergeants, 1 Spear militia, 1 dismounted knight, 1/2 stack of hobilars, 2 catapults, a trebuchet and my general. I lucked out and my army were place on a mountain top over looking some nice little valley. The front of the mountain could not be traversed; instead there was a nice winding path to the top.

Normally the HRE units hold their ground and wait for me to attack, but for some reason the AI wanted to climb that mountain and meet my forces head on. Really bad decision.

I have learnt that trebuchets and catapults are pretty accurate when they are firing downward, usually they miss by a mile. There were some devasting hits into some highly concentrated mass of HRE units.

The longbowmen were just cutting them down as they slowly trudged up the mountain side. By the time they reached my infantry line they lines were so thinned out I charged my line and they started to rout en masse.

I think I lost about 14 soldiers and most of those causalities were result of friendly fire. My hobilars and general cleaned up the routing troops. HRE refused to pay the over three thousand ransom and the prisoners were sent to the gallows ( a very disturbing sound effect I might add ).

Say Eikon, how in the world do you get so many kills with gunners/archers without them running out of ammo? Did you up their ammo? I just fought a battle with 2 units or turkopoles and each one got about 24 kills before running out of arrows.

Remember that you are comparing one of the weaker archery units with one of the strongest gunpowder units. Gunners generally kill at about the same rate as archers but they fire fewer volleys to do so and not every man in the unit fires with each volley, so they take much longer to chew through their ammo, plus there are more men in unit of gunners than a unit of horse archers, and they are armour piercing. I've had a single unit of Portuguese Arquebusiers get upward of 200 kills in a single battle and they only used up about 2/3 of their ammo. True, this was in ideal conditions (firing down into a dense mass of troops held in a bottleneck in good weather) but it's not unusual for them to get up to about 100. If Eikon has 20 gunners, then each one only has to get 50 kills to amass 1000 kills in total, which is quite achievable.

I never could get very good results with the musketeers in the Americas campaign. I did do better with the Portugese. Firing into a densely packed formation does give almost a kill for every shot, esp. at point blank range.


I'd really rather hear about how ya'll have been whupped up on by the AI. I know its rare but sometimes it happens. I once rented 2 elephant units and tried to use them against the Timurids. They both got shot by flaming ballista bolts and ran amok after before they could do any damage to the Timurids. Then they stomped my men so good that the Timurids cleaned up with girls who weren't even old enough to wear birkas. I usually learn a lot more from my defeats and mistakes than my wins. (I have made so many mistakes in my marriage that I am a regular marriage expert.)

No Geezer no additions to MTW2 I actually havent even modded my pikemen yet all I got so far is the TW patch. My musketeers get more kills becuz I feed them
salt pork 4 times a week.

Seriously tho, its mainly due to outflanking the AI and finding ways to trap them in a "net 'o steel" if your gunners are on a nice hill or a gully or a house or trees or you are able to bunch the AI force together....they rapidly become mincemeat.

Id have to differ on the opinion that gunners have the same kill rate as archers however, since Ive not seen many archer units able to decimate a late bodyguard unit in less than a minute but 2 muskets will no problem.
