If you analize the entire roman history you can see that turning point. Marcus Aurelius was great, but check the rest of the emperors after him. Those are the days of Comodus, Pertinax, Caracalla, Elagabalus, and so on to the end. That is why I say it is a turning point in roman history.

Yes, he did defy the rather short-lived tradition of adopting the successors, picking young people with immense talent, instead of merely putting one's own spoiled son on the throne. However, the plague happened during his reign as well, and that was not his fault.

Well, neither was Hitler when you really look at him. I mean, excluding his mass murder of Jews, Slavs, Roma, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, retarded people, POWs, and etc, etc, etc. Excluding his violent rallies, the War he started that proved to be the deadliest one ever, the bombings of civilians, etc, etc, etc. Nor was Quisling or Vlasov, I mean all they did was sell themselves to the Nazis. Caligula was relatively decent as well. So was Stalin.

Yes, that was sarcasm, although one can argue for Stalin and Hitler, saying that they, especially Hitler, were excellent rulers, save for the losing war Hitler began, and the repressions of Stalin. However, I would like to hear some arguments towards Commodus. That he was a mighty gladiator perhaps? How would that make him a good ruler though? I hope you were merely jesting.
