    Default Expansion pack worth it?

Having just finished a single camapign I was wondering is it really worth my while getting the Kingdoms expansion pack anybody? I really like the game but is it just more of the same?? I wouldn't mind playing more of this game but I don't really want the usual expansion whereby its the same game with just a couple of extra factions thrown in. Any advice anybody???

    Thanks markyd

I don't have Kingdoms yet, although I will get it eventually.

There are four new mini-campaigns, with a total of nine or ten new factions.

Each campaign also has its own special features. For example, you can build 'permant forts' in the Britannia campaign which are stone-built and much better than normal forts on the battlemap. Factions also now get historical characters, such as William Wallace for the Scots. The new factions are pretty unique. As the Teutonic Order, you can only build castles and must do missions to get money.

Unfortunately, there are absolutedly no changes to the main campaign.

Still, I think its worth getting nonetheless. You might want to check out the Securom issue though, seems to worry a lot of people...

I would say Kingdoms is probably the best value of all the expansions so far, simply because you get four new campaigns where normally you would get only one. I hope they continue with this model in future expansions.

The Americas campaign is probably the most different from the grand campaign, with the huge native american armies of infantry and no cavalry and a totally new area of the world to conquer. If your bored of the GC I'd recommend it as a good place to start.

The Crusades is fun, but IMHO Broken Crescent does the same thing but better (and is free).

Britannia is the campaign I've played the most, the new factions for it (Ireland and Wales) are quite interesting, though I must admit I mostly like it because it's the only campaign in which I can play as Wales.

I've not really played Teutonic much, I might try it soon though.

I didn't know about the whole Securom issue until after I'd already installed Kingdoms. I've never really had any issues with it but then I don't really use that machine for much except games. I do rather resent the principle of it though, and as a loyal customer I do feel a little let down.

But apart from that I would say that Kingdoms is the best of the expansions so far.

The Kingdoms expansion is so good CA should give a money back satisfaction guarantee. I played the Americas campaign first because I thought it would not be very good (actually I thought it would be lame) but I thoroughly enjoyed it (had to play it a second time as Spain). The other 3 are supurb in my opinion. The Teutonic faction was the most difficult campaign that I have ever played. I would readily pay the price for just one of the campaigns. The only drawback is that it makes playing vanilla seem a little bland.

Well I suppose I'll give it a go. I took a 'holiday' on two other games for a while and got bored pretty quick. Empire earth 3 and Command and conquer 3.

The best thing about Total war 3 is, as a campaing war gaming fan, it has probably the best 'proper' campain avaiable. I mean look at command and conquer 3... Asset building dash...slowly lets you access to new technology and it then directs you to the next area of conflict.

TW lets you start off tiny, world at your feet..gives you a few missions you can take or leave...then you can go anywhere you like.
Its a shame some of the other manufacturers don't take a page from the TW guide to war mongering.

I've definitely gotten my money's worth out of it. The new campaigns/factions are pretty interesting and a lot of fun. There's some engine improvements, and, kingdoms is used as a base for some of the better user mods. Playing the Kingdom's Teutonic campaign's Lithuania faction, as modified and added to Stainless Steel mod, has been the most challenging M2TW campaign I've played yet.

    Glad you liked it.
I too enjoyed myself playing the game, mostly Britannia, but I eventually lost interest rather quickly.
Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome expansion but it doesn't grant me the satisfaction of getting to conquer the known world.
If you know what I mean.

Excellent points and I agree with these comments. I am currently involved in a super Teutonic campaign as Denmark and am enjoying every turn!!! If you want a real challenge try Norway in the Britannia campaign.

Kingdoms is worth the money. The new factions, units, and maps are pretty cool. Go buy it. If you liked vanilla mtw2 then you will enjoy this expansion.

I'll get around to buying it one day.

Most likely when it's promised patch comes out. This isn't likely to happen until it hits the $10 rack though unfortunately.

The kingdoms expansion is definately worth it, with 4 new campaigns (Teutonic, Americas, Britannia and Crusades) you definately get your moneys worth. Also that it features patch 1.3 makes it worthwhile just buying it for the patch, atleast your getting something out of the game if you dont like it. Like many people here have said, i believe the Britannia campaign is the best, especially the Welsh campaign, being the only faction at war with the English, you are constantly attacked, losing men, economy is falling, but it never ceases to excite you, making you wonder what will happenn next...
