Thread: faction symbol nightmare

    Default faction symbol nightmare

    Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help? I spent a very long time creating new faction symbols using Photoshp Elements. After many hours I was pleased with the result. But I can't get them into MTW2.

Or rather, I can, but they are in white boxes, which looks terrible.

The thing is, I saved these designs as TGAs in Photoshop Elements, and I thought I was just saving the circular symbol images, as the rest of the Photoshop screen had the 'transparent' checkerboard pattern. And so I thought I was just saving a circular image without any background. But when I load the symbols into the game they appear in white boxes, as though they have white backgrounds.

What can I do? Where am I going wrong? How can I overcome this problem?

Maybe I'm missing something with regard to Photoshop Elements, but on my screen it just looks like I've got a circular symbol - it's only when I import the designs into the game or another graphics program that I see they're in white boxes (or, rather, have white backgrounds).

I've spent hours on this, so any word of advice would be really appreciated. Many thanks!

No idea about Photoshop Elements, but you should be able to add another channel to the image, call it "alpha" and make it black where you want to make the image transparent.

    Hi Alpaca,

Many thanks for this reply. Well, I finally worked it out before I read this message, but it took me ages! Trouble is, Photoshop Elements has a very different interface and menu/tool set - well, that's my excuse anyway!

Thanks again for the info - much appreciated!

You're welcome. However I'd like to ask you to edit your post if, in the future, you find out the answer to a question by yourself before somebody answers (this is often done in order to prevent somebody else from wasting time)

    Hi alpaca,

Yes, of course, and apologies for not editing the posts. I can totally see your point, and I meant to do this, but it just kinda slipped my mind. Again, many thanks for the reply - and I'll make sure to edit in future if I find a solution. All the best!
