    Default Daylight saving time

Bah, it's that time of year again, when the clocks go forward, you lose an hour of sleep, and the day seems to drag on far too long. I object to it because it makes the day drag on unnaturally, has apparently negligeable effects on energy consumption and has its origins in an irksome puritanical opinion that everyone would be much better off if they went to bed earlier and got up earlier.

    Just my tuppence worth,

    A late riser.

Meh. I like having an extra hour of sun in the evening, wich I'd otherwise just sleep through.

And when in a couple of months the clock goes back, you'll get a "free" hour of sleep!

Aren't you a month late on this 'newsflash'?

Just kidding. We have conference calls with our Munich design center all the time, and I know the USA is the only country that advances the clocks the first week of March.

I have the exact opposite reaction, Henry. Why not just leave the freakin clocks set at Daylight Savings time? Who gets up at 5AM? Who likes going in to work in the dark and leaving work in the dark? You guys are on what, the 54th parallel? It's even worse for you, right? I don't mind the cold in the winter, or the snow. But the darkness gets on you after a while.

I thought it was just to prove the power of Congress- they have control over time itself.

I say dump daylight savings, it's worthless.

I think you need to move to Indiana. They're the only state that stands athwart the madness of Daylight Savings and raises a mighty fist, crying, "The madness stops now!"

Actually the other option instead of no daylight savings is having 0,1,2 or more changes per year based on how close/far you are from the equator.

Essentially daylight savings makes no sense the nearer you are to the equator, but it is a lot more useful closer to the poles... but with flexi-time. 24/7 stores, internet and other methods...daylight savings is kind of a moot point.

We are having daylight savings this weekend. We had to put a patch on the servers by last Saturday or it would have gone live last Sunday... the MS patch did not work on a large amount of machines... luck has it that mine did work... downside was spending Saturday night at work for 3 hours.

I get more complicated than that, when the changes are done here it's pretty good as it gives the sun light in the morning in better order (aka bright when going to winter time and less sunny for the summer time) giving you a few more weeks to adapt, but it really doesn't matter most of the year as it's either too dark or too bright anyway.

65th degree north here... Anybody complaining about light should be here during June or December depending on what you complain about. And it's still not midnight sun here (but most certainly midnight light).
We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Reinvent the British and you get a global finance center, edible food and better service. Reinvent the French and you may just get more Germans.

I love day light savings time.

Back home in Michigan it stays light to almost 10 PM in the summer time.

I always prefered it getting darker later in the evening.

And that is probably why my Great-Grandfather left home at 13 to become a cabin boy to escape those very long winter nights. He started a family in Tahiti so I suppose he enjoyed the summer sun more.

Clocks go forward, therefore an hour closer to pub opening. Earlier waking is balanced out by earlier drinking. All is well.

I've always thought the return from daylight savings time to standard time should take place at 1AM on November 1st. That would give the night before, Halloween, 13 o'clock- a "witching hour".

I like the clocks going forward because of the extra daylight. The winter has been very depressing for me, causing health issues. Last Summer was not exactly amazing where I live, so that compounded the problem. The extra light cheers me up, and I bet a lot of other people too.
I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'

Split the difference , change the clocks by half an hour and leave it at that .
