Need help! Modding Problems

Right, seens as though my other thread was a complete mess, i would like to ask question and make them make sense, so here i go:

1.When you use the unpacker, people say that you have to delete two files, something like 'descr_geography' If i delete it and then save, will it save or will i have to edit the file making it a non read me etc.

2.To alter the descr_strat files, such as editing the campaign options so they are all available (apart from Papal States, Slave, Mongols and Timurids, and the other one) I have edited the files to a read me, but then it says
'Cannot create C:/Program Files/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/Imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt.file
Make sure the path and file name are correct'
I just kept cracking at it, putting it to read me, doing the administrator things, and it came up with
'descr_strat
This file is set to read-only
Try again with a different file name'
What have i done wrong here, do i have to use the unpacker before i can edit this??? Or do i have to make a seperate batch folder and copy the descr_strat file into there and save it???

3.On a previous thread i made, i think Poor Bloody Infantry mentioned a batch file, how do you make on of these, or can you only make one once you have used the unpacker???

i would really like some help please, especially with the unpacker part, i keep almost doing it, then forgetting that as soon as i do i wont be able to play M2TW until i edit the files, which might never happen...

I am thinking of Unpacking the files, i just need to know two things, how long does it take to unpack everything, and do you need a mod folder to do it successfully, a reply today or tommorrow would be nice!

Unpacking takes more than five minutes and if you use Vista, that is another subject. Needing administrative rights says you probably do. When you disable the UAC, by rebooting do you mean restart your computer, and also is it as simple to put back on as it is to turn off????

Being Microsoft, too simple. Where you disable it is the same place to turn it back on.

and what about deleleting the files, when you delete them, do you need to save the files, as my computer doesnt seem to like saving files... I will probably have to turn off the UAC so i can get past all the administrative rights stuff...

So thats all i have to do, turn off the UAC, delete the files, turn it back on and i can start modding??? Ok, just appoximately how long will it take, an hour, 2 hours, 30 mins???? how long!?

I advise leaving it off completely unless other people you dont trust use your computer. (Better yet get rid of Vista and upgrade to XP, it's much simpler and uses half the system resources vista dose. (I did and have been happy since, although in another couple years you'll need vista hopefully by then all the bugs will be worked out of it.)

Depending on your system approximately 5 to 20 minutes. If it takes less then 5 it didnt work properly and many files will be corrupt. Even with UAC off it took me three tries to unpack properly with Vista... and patching was a nightmare.

I have tried to edit the files, like the link advises Molep to do, but when i try to save it, it only comes up with Readme.txt, or do i have to rename the notepad i have just edited and delete .txt. and rename it with .bat??? If i do this should it work??? I have disabled the UAC also

p.s how many times do you ave to do this if it is successful, you said to put it to .0, well what is the number that it goes up to???
Do i also need a mod folder before i can start modding, if so, is it possible to create my own, i know alpaca has one, but it doesnt seem to be appearing on my folders list in my M2TW directory, i can see it when i search, but as soon as i leave the file it disappears again...

I have actually successfully edited the unpacker and made it work, unpacking all of the files, i just need to know which are the two files you need to delete to get M2TW to work again...
