Default Promising start...(unfinished EB1.0 Pahlavan story)

    Hi all,

after some doubts I have finally decided to post a torso of my AAR, which for a variety of reasons is doomed to remain (most probably) an unfinished story. Hope you will enjoy it nonetheless.

    EB 1.0 campaign, very hard/medium

Not to be continued... Well, maybe...

great to see the Parthians back on track! even if just for a single post, i know it take time to do such things, it is a very nice composition for me and i think you should continue it, at last if this dont take away too much time from your work or school or piano or whatever other occupation... ah and i missed your pontos aar (i had no internet connection for a while), i just noticed it some minutes ago, watching the link under your banner, that was a great minimal 1 post, complete aar!
(i have to say when i read those things regarding Gaston, Kuna, Cyruz and company in the posts below that, a tear was almost dropping out ... thanks so much for the things you sayd there! damn i had to continue it... those guys come in my dreams and claim to be back addressing me with the worst words... im thinking to something in 1.1, hope i will have some time to restart them )

This is very promising. Great, keep up the awesome work!

Nice way to relieve all those deprimental AAR's about boys being trained to be Guild Warriors -- wait, nevermind...

Thank you very much, friends, for you kind response to my story.

In fact, the post above is the beginning of my first EB1.0 campaign that consumed nearly all my free time from the day EB1.0 came out till late-November 2007. The first decade described in the post above was just the gathering storm.

That storm really broke out in the second decade when Arche Seleukeia noticed my revolt and reoriented its main war effort against my new-born Parthian kingdom. But the real hell was still yet to begin...

When I was shown in very graphic terms why is AS called "the Gray Death" barely holding my western borders, Saka Rauka (thanks to the money assistance script the richest faction, BTW) stroke with several stacks full of Early Saka Nobles. If armoured horse-archers are tanks of antiquity, than the battles that ensued were equivalents of Kursk 1943.
The simple fact that I have lost five (!) family members in that tragic year 252 B.C.E alone illustrates the point clearly, especially given how extremely tough the Pahlavan FMs are.

Finally I was able to stop the madness and slowly regain some strength. I have focused my effort on the comparatively weakest - but the most stubborn and aggressive - member of the enemy conspiracy against my poor (literally) kingdom: Bactria. Finally in 242 B.C.E. Bactria was destroyed and my eastern border secured.

I still have got the savegame. But where is the AAR? Well, it is my negligence with backups. For my better convenience I was doing the AAR as a PowerPoint presentation to be then exported into .jpg pictures. But for some reason the huge file containing the interesting part of the story 262-242 B.C.E. got corrupted and all my work - several dozens of hours - was lost...!!!

I was so upset that I was unable to continue that campaign and started another one. Now, when I recreated the Achaemenid Empire under the Orontid dynasty from Hayasdan (I have a weak spot for Eastern factions) the wound is healed enough for me to share at least the torso of the AAR from a much-enjoyed campaign. Your kind response is a great encouragement for me to continue the story further from my last save.

This is where I have got till 242 B.C.E.:

Thank you for your support. Beer to everybody!

Well that's a pretty awesome AAR you have here I must say it's extremely original and very very interesting, full of twists....

HOW did you manage to win the Battle of Khiva???? Am I missing something or are just a tactical genius of some kind?

Please continue this AAR if possible, I would like to see a new Persian Empire

Very nice, but why do Pahlavan AAR always meet an early end?

@ anubis88 - Battle of Khiva was won solely thanks to the incredible power of Early Pahlavan Bodyguards (heavily armoured, yet very mobile, horse-archers). The OPFOR was mostly skirmishers, led by a Captain only - therefore with low morale. When charged from front and back simultaneusly they almost instantly routed. In this regard the role of another unit (Daha skirmisher cavalry) was indispensable key to victory.

@ Tristuskhan - search the forum for "The Waste Land - A Parthian Story" by Obelics. It is excellent and quite long (even if the beginning is apparently lost for good....)

    --------------------------------------------

Thank you mates for your kind words, here is a short update, hope it will not disappoint you.

    Hope you enjoyed!

The save is downloaded and I'm going to have a look at it just now. Thank you.

EDIT: done. I've compared with my own situation in 222bc (i'm now in 144bc in my campaign): it's exactly the same (except I did not hold Susa and Ekbatana) but there is something puzzling me:

Where are your armies??? Did you achieve so much with only the troops stationned in the two provinces cited above? That's awesome, Marvin.

    RE-EDIT:

quote "I would be honoured if someone would take on where I prematurely ended." Obelics, step out of ranks! Time to give up your creeping Romani and get back on horse!
(kidding, but it seems the situation happened on purpose, don't you think so?))

Oh my God, this really IS drama!

Great AAR Marvin, reminds me of Seleucid Britain on the old RTR forums, classics both of them, and funny as hell!
