Default The City States of Greece : A Koinon Hellenon AAR

With the release of 1.1 ive decided to start another KH campaign, but to keep myself interested im going to write an AAR. Minor unit changes have been made, along with the short_pike, spear combo added to hoplites. As I've seen previous in Fanatic’s First Cohort/Phalanx/Elephant/Chariot minimod.

    House Rules :
Attacking army's must be lead by a general. (Does not include an army coming to the defense of a city.)
Admittance to the council will be granted with expansion, but in only in pairs of 2's.
Army's can not consist of more than 49% mercenaries, including garrisons.
    Can not break alliances.
Can not declare war without a unanimous vote from the council, all other cases majority rules.

    Difficulty : H/M

    Version : EB 1.1 running on BI.exe

    Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part I)

272 BC, Greece is divided. The city state's Sparte, Athenai, and Rhodos resist Makedonian rule and form the Koinon Hellenon. The alliance of these city states was in defense to the Makedonian threat in Korinthos, Chalkis, and Makedonia herself further north. Pyrrhos of Epeiros was in control west of Makedonia and even holds a city in Italia.

With word of the Makedonian threat, Areus Agiados Lakedaimonios, King of Sparte, and leader of the Koinon Hellenon ends his campaign in Krete to return to Sparte.
Shortly after, the Council of Koinon Hellenon meet to discuss the Makedonian threat. The Council consists of Areus Agiados Lakedaimonios and Akrotatos Agiados Lakedaimonios of Sparte, Chremonides Aithalidos Attikos of Athenai, Agathokles Rhodios of Rhodos, and Eudamides Eurypontidos Lakedaimonios also of Sparte.

After a day of discussion, and arguing, between the council the following moves are to be made.
    1. Army in Sparte is to remain in Sparte until the Makedonian's make their next move. Council Vote : 3 - 2
    2. A diplomat is to be sent to Ambrakia to work out trade right's and even an alliance if possible. Council Vote : 4 - 1
    3. Akrotatos of Sparte is to begin preparing the army in Sparte for the Seige of Korinthos, where we will free our brothers from Makedonian Tyranny. Council Vote : 3 - 2
    4. The fleet is to be disbanned to relieve the economic depression. Council Vote : 5 - 0

A season later our diplomat has reached Ambrakia, and Odysseus Kalabrios works out an alliance between the Koinon Hellenon and the Epeiros with Alexandros Aiakides on behalf of the Epieros.

Simple Drainage is built in Sparte and Athenai, as roads are being built in Rhodos.

With the fleet disbanned, Makedonia has blockaded the port of Rhodos and has a small army outside Athenai.

In the winter of 272BC Captain Meleagros besieges Athenai, and when word reaches Sparte, Akrotatos and Eudamides exit Sparte with the army and lay seige to Korinthos, a Makedonian city.

This is my first AAR and I am no historian, so criticism and advice is welcome.

This is good stuff, seriously! I have a question for you, though; I see you are playing with BI exe, so why don't you enable shieldwall, schiltrom and the other BI-only extras?

Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part II)

Later that winter Captain Deukalos comes to reinforce Alexandros Argeades and try to break the seige of Korinthos. This being the very opportunity Akrotatos has been looking for, he engages the Captain and his reinforcements from Korinthos.

Akrotatos sets up in a near perfect defense against the Captain and his army. Setting up his levy hoplites outside him and Eudamides bodygaurd in a phalanx formation with peltests behind them. He sends his Kretan Archers, Slingers, and rest of his Peltests ontop the high ground, protected from the advance.

Over 1/2 of Captain Deukalos' army lie dead before ever reaching the battle line. The Captain and his phalanx engage the battle line and are pelted from behind with pila, lead, and arrows.

Alexandros' garrison marches towards the battle as Alexandros and his calvary ride to flank the battle line, however are soon enganged with Akrotatos himself.

Not being able to stand to Spartan might, the puny Makedonian flees from the field.

The battle lines repositions itself and engages 1 of Alexandros' phalanxs, slaughtering all but few of the Makedonians. His other phalanx engages the slingers who never made it back down the hill, but there numbers are reduced greatly before reaching the slingers. After the first phalanx breaks the line rushes to the aid of the slingers, and routs the enemy. Victory for Akrotatos!

With the battle for Korinthos over, Akrotatos has proven himself a capable leader.

With the liberation of Korinthos, the Council meets again.

    1. Areus proposes Akrotatos leaves a small garrison and Eudamides as governor of Korinthos and head towards Athenai to retrain. Council Vote :: 3 - 2
    2. Chremonides proposes trade rights be established with the Getai tribe and the Romani. Council Vote :: 5 - 0
    3. Agathokles proposes a larger naval bay be built in Rhodos. Council Vote :: 1 - 4

    Larger updates to come.

Well so far i've just stated the major things stated in the Council's chambers and who proposed them, as I am not sure whether i have enough backround in ancient greece to actually roleplay and bring you inside those chambers. Although the story and views of the characters will soon be revealed.

Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part III)

Following the Council's desicion; Akrotatos prepares to move most of his men east towards Athenai that following season. With the liberation of Korinthos, and joining the great city with the Koinon Hellenon, the funds of the combined city states has just turned positive, limiting economic and military growth.

However that fall Captain Epigenes brings war to Athenai and besieges the great city with a small army.

With word of the seige, Akrotatos moves his veterens from the battle for Korinthos towards the rear of Captain Epigenes' camp, cutting off an escape rout and attacking the aggressors.

(Wouldn't let me go to the battle map, so i had to auto-resolve)

It was a clear victory however Akrotatos lost nearly 200 men, but the seige was broken and Akrotatos entered the city of Athenai to wait for his troops to be retrained, and for him to recieve a year or two of schooling.

Odysseus Kalabrios sends word that he has worked out a trade agreement between the Koinon Hellenon and the Romani with Manivs Cvrivs Dentatvs.

With funds now flowing from the city states, various buildings were repaired in Korinthos, including the Hiera Olympia.

Akrotatos becomes a worshipper of Athena Polias, and one of her priest's become a part of his retinue.

In summer 270BC, Antigonos Argeades, king of Makedonia, leads an army to besiege the city of Athenai and hopefully revenge Alexandros Argeades.

What members of the Council that aren't in Athenai meet on these matters.

    1. Areus proposed disbanding the hoplites in Rhodos to free up money for recruitment. Council Vote :: 2 - 1
    2. Rhodios proposed sending a diplomat to the Epieros requiring assistance against Makedonia. Council Vote :: 3 - 0
    3. Areus proposed the hiring of a small mercenary army led by himself to help defend Athenai. Council Vote :: 1 - 2
    4. Rhodios proposed raising troops in our own city states. Council Vote :: 2 - 1

The following season Sparte finishes building its coastal clearings, which have been difficult to establish in the past due to the mountains in the region.

Antigonos has built seige equipment while Akrotatos and Chremonides prepare the garrison and rally the troops.

Meanwhile Odysseus contacts Alexandros Aiakides of the Epieros requesting their help against Makedonia.

With Athenai besieged for almost a year, the economy crippled, our allies to the north appear to finally be preparing an army to march into Thessaly or Makedonia herself.

Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part IV)

Summer, 269BC Makedonia accepts a peace offer from Hermogenes Dyrrachios of the Koinon Hellenon after several gifts of gold. Thus leaving the treasury even more depleted.

With the ceacefire and the seige lifted from Athenai, many of Akrotatos veterens were retrained and outfitted with better weapons that same season.

In fall, 269BC Phyrros has taken his army and instead laid seige to our ally the city state of Thermon. This is an act of war the Council could not stand for and declares war on Epieros, breaking the newly formed alliance.

The Council agree's all available funds should be put towards a campaign against Antigonos.
It is also agreed upon that an alliance with the Romani should try and be formed.

That winter, Areus' daughter Hermine, princess of Sparte, marry's Teuthras Sybarites of Sparte. Areus then sends him to Athenai, in hopes of increasing his education.

That winter Makedonia also blockades the port of Rhodos, ending the short peace.

Spring arrives and Doros Aithalidos Attikos, prince of Athenai, comes of age. His father sends him to Sparte to begin his Agoge Training.

The Council meets, upon request of Akrotatos, prince of Sparte. We enter Areus' chambers in Sparte...

Akrotatos takes his seat besides his father, Areus, King of Sparte. Infront of him lies beautiful fountains and hanging from the wall his grandfathers shield. To the left and right of the fountain, the old and young men who make up the council. From left to right, Agathokles Rhodios, Chremonides Attikos, and Eudamides Lakedaimonios.

Areus stands to speak "Welcome my fellow basileis, we are here today to hear a proposal from my son, Akrotatos..."

Akrotatos sits hearing the muffled voice of his father while he remembers his fathers teachings, and their plan for the Lakedaimonios'.

As Areus sits, his son stands "I to would like to thank the Council for coming to Sparte to hear my proposition. Antigonos has moved his main army away from Athenai and towards Epieros, leaving a smaller, defeatable army inbetween Athenai and Chalkis. With this said, I would like to take the veterans from Korinthos and our newly trained troops and defeat the Makedonians in Chalkis, freeing our brothers from Makedonian Tyranny. I am asking you grant me full control of our army for the duration of the war with Makedonia. Where the army marches will be my decision alone, and using the informants we have I will break the backs of the Antigonids and finally end the threat to our north!"

Akrotatos knows that the Council would normally not approve of such direct control to one man, but with his victory for Korinthos and the defense of Athenai, he was a proven leader. And with the support of his father and Eudamides, the proposition would be passed.

Chremonides speaks "Your victory for Korinthos and coming to the defense of my city were both impressive and brave, however your asking we leave the command of the army of all Hellenes to one young Spartan."

Agathokles speaks "Impressive as your victories were, you have yet to face a fully equipped and trained army. Should you be defeated and our forces be crushed, who will be here to defend our own city states? I am sorry Akrotatos, but you do not have my vote."

Akrotatos hearing the points of the Athenian and Rhodian, he then responds "Between the veterans and the newly trained troops, led by a Spartan general, can crush the opposition in Chalkis. It would be atleast 2 full seasons before reinforcements can arrive, by which time I plan to have already besieged Chalkis. After the Makedonian Tyrant is driven from the city I will leave a small garrison and send the army back to Athenai to be re-equipped. With Chalkis liberated, our economic situation will loosen and we will be freeing our brothers at the same time, securing freedom in southern Greece. Also allowing us to prepare to liberate Thermon, great allies of our alliance. Should I be defeated before liberating Chalkis, the army will retreat to Athenai to be re-equipped and the Council will have to appoint a new general(never retreat). Either scenario we have enough time to prepare for a large army sent or led by Antigonos."

Areus stands "My son makes a valid point, our brothers in Chalkis and Thermon must be freed and as a Spartan, I am fully confident in my sons command and combat capabilities."

Eudamides "I agree with my king, freedom must be secured throughout Greece."

    Areus "All in favor?"

Areus, Akrotatos, Eudamides, and surprisingly to Akrotatos, even Chremonides raises his hand.

Areus "Majority rules 4 : 1, Akrotatos prepare for your march to Chalkis."

Akrotatos sits in his chair, watching the Lakedaimonios' plan unravel, beginning as planned, for these Councilmen's son's, the future of the Council, are not nearly as wise as their fathers, and would not see such a plan coming their way.

Here is an easy way for any1 to play EB with BI and the BI special features:

    1) Right-click on your EB1.1 icon, then on properties. Search for a line where it says something like ''RomeTW-exe''. Just change that to ''RomeTW-BI.exe''.

    2) Go to the folder you have EB installed, and copy the .txt file in eb/data/text called ''imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.t xt''/ Rename the copy to ''barbarian_invasion_regions_and_settlement_names. txt''.

    3) Next, go to ''eb\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign''. Copy ''imperial_campaign'' and rename it to ''barbarian_invasion''. Then delete map.rwm (if yo have already played a campaign).

    4) This is optional, but it's a nice extra. Go to your RTW's original folder and locate the ''bi'' file. From there go to data\ui\"pick a culture"\interface and copy battlepage_03. Now paste it in your eb\data\ui\''every culture''\interface. This enables the shieldwall and schiltrom battle icons. Now you can alter the EDU (export_descr_unit) file to your likeness. You can, for example, give the ''shield_wall'' ability next to the formation line for a certain unit. Same goes with schiltrom. You can also add the ''can_swim'' ability to any unit next to the attributes line.

    Hope this helped!

    EDIT: Nice progress, btw!

Ah I early linked that post to some1 with a similar question, however after adding short_pike and spear to all of the hoplites, ive been to lazy to add in sheild wall. Nor do I know how it would react with the spear, short_pike combo, although it could be easily removed. Thanks for the help though!

    Thanks for the support all!

    Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part V)

Prince of Sparte, Akrotatos has become a good tactician from his past experiences in battle and some time studying in the great Academy of Athenai.

He then, as planned, attacks the Makedonians outside Athernai, severely outnumbered they retreat behind Chalkis without a fight.

He then marches his army to confront the small Makedonian army outside Chalkis, without a fight, they too retreat south of Chalkis. With the withdrawl of the smaller Makedonian army, Akrotatos is free to lay seige on Chalkis, just as he had told the Council.

After a season his battering rams are finished, and he decides to assault the measly wooden palisade. Outnumbering the Makedonians by over 500 men, Akrotatos goes into the battle full of confidence.

Akrotatos begins to set up his army, missile infront, followed by the rams, then behind that lines of phalanx, new recruits in the front, with himself and the veterans in the rear.

He moves the army forward, phalanxs out of reach from the towers on the wall, the rams continue forward to the walls. Well short of the walls the archers hault and fire on a unit of levy hoplites, where a bit closer the peltest hault and also lay harrassing fire.

Akrotatos moves the phalanx's forward as the walls start to fall, and as the rams breach the cities outer defenses over 1/5 of the enemy army has been killed by our missiles.

Akrotatos splits the first line into 3 groups and sends them into the city of Chalkis, with the hoplites that were operating the battering ram.

Captain Admentos of the army reinforcing Makedonia, charges the new recruits who just ran through the gates!

As Captain Admentos' calvary is slaughtered he retreats back towards the city's plaza, where his life comes to a sudden hault and an arrow pierces the upper-left part of his back. Multiple arrows hit his horse and causes it to jerk and send him to the ground and soon after, his horse.

Akrotatos has entered the city as this is happening, and sets up in a phalanx inbetween the buildings. In an attempt to revenge the death of Captain Admentos, Captain Athenodoros charges the Spartan phalanx!

The first wave of calvary is routed soon after attacking the phalanx.

The Captain than soon turns his unit around and begins to throw javalins at the Spartan line. Akrotatos then charges the enemy calvary and withen seconds of the engagement the Captain was killed, leaving the garrison leaderless.

The Makedonian untrained hoplites hesitantly approach the Spartan line.

The Spartans, suffering only 4 deaths by the end of the first engagement send the enemy cowering back to the plaza.

Akrotatos then resets his bodygaurds back into the phalanx and told them to hold their ground. He then sends part of the army up another street to greet the enemy in the plaza.

Wave after wave of peltests, levy hoplites, and other missile units run into Spartan shields, soon to be introduced to the Spartan spear.

The last retreating wave runs into the army sent up the side street, and fighting breaks out near the plaza. Akrotatos rushes his men into the fray, where the only Makedonian unit not involved was the levy phalanx in the plaza. His army destroys the missile units and calvary and then engages the phalanx, while he repositions himself behind the phalanx. He then charges the poor levies from the rear!

Squeezed by the hoplite phalanx, the Makedonians are helpless.

Akrotatos and his bodygaurd kill 300 men that day out of over 800 Makedonians, losing only 4 of their own men. The army sustains less than 100 casualties and Chalkis is liberated!

Makedonian buildings are torn down for material in Chalkis, hoping to kick start the rebuilding process. With a Makedonian presence still in Chalkis, Akrotatos sneaks to Athenai where he is to update the Council on his victories in Chalkis...

Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part VI)

Akrotatos sends five of his trusted bodyguard on horseback to scout for enemies in the path of Akrotatos. They soon return to him and report Captain Euphrillos of Makedonia has laid seige to Athenai. Akrotatos is forced to return to Chalkis and mobilize his army; leaving a small garrison in Chalkis Akrotatos marches toward the Captain's army, however they retreat when they receive word that Akrotatos is approaching.

With the seige broken, Akrotatos enters Athenai for a Council meeting...

Akrotatos enters the king's chamber, to be greeted by Chremonides and congratulated on his victory liberating Chalkis. The men conversate for much longer than usual before a meeting, Akrotatos takes notice of his father and Agathokles speaking privately. With the most serious of faces they took no notice of Akrotatos' entrance. After what felt like days of listening to Eudamides speak of his accomplishments in Korinthos, Areus walks over to Chremonides and shortly after walks to his seat. With the leader of the Koinon Hellenon seated, the following Council members follow suit. Chremonides starts the meeting, rising from his finely made chair.

"Welcome my friends, I would like to start with congratulating Akrotatos again with his liberation of Chalkis. With that said the Council is eager to hear your next moves in the war with the kingdom of Makedonia."

Akrotatos stands "With the liberation of Chalkis, our city states are beginning to prosper. To assure the security of Chalkis, I propose Teuthras Sybarites be moved from his study's in Athenai to govern Chalkis. With a governer in Chalkis I will let my troops re-equipt and re-train in Athenai, then beginning my march to free Thermon of invading armies. I also propose we send someone to Thermon and attempt to negotiate the city state of Thermon joining the Koinon Hellenon."

Chremonides "All in favour of sending Sybarites to Chalkis?"

Akrotatos raises his hand along with everyone else.

"5 : 0, Teuthras will be sent to govern Chalkis. All in favour of opening diplomatic negotiations with Thermon?"

All five men raise their hands again.

"Negiotiations will be opened with Thermon. I believe Agathokles would like to speak next."

Rhodios "Well my friends as you know, my health hasn't been very well and at this point in my life, I am just preparing for death. I propose the Council starts preperations for my exit out of the Council. I would also like to leave my known wishes for my son. When he comes of age, I'd like him to participate in the Spartan Agoge, and then spend 2 years of study in Athenai. He can then continue them in Rhodos."

Akrotatos notices the old man in pain as he goes to sit back down. With his death coming soon, and his son most likely to replace him on the Council, Akrotatos knows he needs to make a new friend in the Prince of Rhodos if he's to continue his plans for his family.

Eudamides stands and begins to go into the rebuilding of Korinthos and Akrotatos fades out...

With the news of his soon depature from Athenai to govern Chalkis, Teuthras expands his retinue.

Akrotatos finally engages Captain Euphrillos outside the city of Korinthos. His uncle Eudamides would march his garrison as reinforcements, not that their needed. Akrotatos outnumbers his foe by near 600 men and prepares himself for the battle.

Akrotatos sets up his army with his ranged units infront, followed by a line of hoplite phalanx, following that 3 seperate phalanxs to limit flanking manovours by the enemy.

The engagement began slowly, as the Captain sends his units one at a time just to be shot down by our missile units.

The Captain sends a unit of his hoplites to engage the Spartan line. Withen seconds of fighting the hoplite realize the Spartans superiority.

On the other side of the field the Captain has tried to the same thing to slow down Eudamides and his bodygaurds.

With the last of the Hoplites retreating, the battle is won.

Akrotatos then prepares his army to confront the last Makedonian army outside Chalkis.

Akrotatos engages Captain Iordanes, easily defeating his army.

The Romani accepts odysseus Kalabrios offer of an alliance between them and the Koinon Hellenon.

Word then spreads throughout the Koinon Hellenon of Agathokles Rhodios' death at the age of 72.

The Council holds a meeting soon after to decide who will govern Rhodos until Eugenios Rhodios finishes his training and studies. However nothing was accomplished and Akrotatos updated the Council on his travels.

Doros Aithalidos Attikos, Prince of Athenai, has completed his Spartan Agoge training and begins the Paidiskos stage.

Akrotatos marches his army towards the enemy armies invading the city state of Thermon's land. Meanwhile Hermogenes Dyrrachios works on an agreement to join Thermon with the Koinon Hellenon.

In an attempt to prove the Koinon Hellenon's loyalties, Akrotatos moves to confront Antigonos Argeades, king of Makedonia....

Wow just wow. Love the story and the screenshots. A couple questions. How do you set up your formations for battle? In other words do you string up the hoplites into one long line? Also do you fight them so that they are deep as they are wide so that its a square unit? What units do you use to turn the flanks of the enemy? And finally whatever the formation you use is that a "traditional" fighting tactic of the Greeks? Hope I didnt overwhelm you with all that but I am following your AAR with great Interest. Greek history is fascinating to me. Awesome job

For my formation, on flat ground which is where ive read greek battle lines looked for, missile infront of a line of hoplites. I select the hoplites i want and just drag them out to the desired length. I try to keep the hoplites in a square, but i play with large formations, and if they havent been recently retrained that can be challenging. If i face mostly light troops i may make the phalanx very thin, to make flanking me much harder.

Next after the phalanx is placed and i move the superior hoplites to the right side of the phalanx. This early in the game itd go like this (left to right), levy, classical, spartans (general). I do this only because ive read about it when reading on ancient greek battles.

Finally i put a more flexable troop, usually theuropoi(sp?) but this early in the game hoplites behind the phalanx. Two units on each side. As for calvary, which i dont use a lot of but if its 3 or less units in a line behind my flanking units. If i have 4 units or more there also split up evenly on each side of the phalanx line.

Turning the flank of the enemy is usually simple, if they crash into your sheilds and they arent allowed to flank you, just watch the right side of the line.

As far as I can tell this is a historical formation, minus the calvary. I really dont know how they set up their calvary.

And the questions are no problem, greek history is fascinating to me as well. I'm glad you guys enjoy it.

Edit : Apperently after the long chapter i just wrote, the pictures are overwritting themselves. So all 30+ pictures are gone, which is depressing because they were awesome screenshots. Looks like the next chapter is going to be a lot of text.

I have Koinon champaign as well :)
Its 264 BC and I took most of Greece except the 2 cities of Epirose and Pella.
Also took that small island in front of Sparta(can't remember its name ), I think I will take that small Macedonian island near the shores of Asia minor before taking Pella, there are 3 full stacks there (including in the city itself)+Antigonos and some more family members. I got only 1 half+ stack which i take cities with it,dunno what should I do...Also Rhodes got a big - (I think -1745) and I dunno how to fix this, any suggestions?
I hope you continue your AAR soon

    1. worked all day yesterday n ill out today but an update should be tonight. (EST)

If you want to end Makedonia id start assaulting the island they have. Without it, its much easier to stop there expansion in asia minor one youve kicked them out of Greece. Rhodos always seems to be in debt due to its size and your army's i think but if u are constantly building improvements to the economy in Rhodos when a time of peace comes and you can disband some of your army's it'll be back in the positives. Though when im in your position, Pella is one of my main targets. Has to much potential not take it, besides it is your enemies capital.

Grabbing a few more cities, especially if there are mines or a trading dock to help reduce your debt in Rhodos. Upgrading all of your docks along with trade rights wit the Ptolemi(sp?) and the Selecuids(sp?) (if your not at war with ither) will also greatly help.

    Good Luck!

Chapter 1 : Uniting Greece (Part VII)

Fall 265BC, Akrotatos confronts Antigonos, outnumbering him by near 400 men, and changes the fate of both the Koinon Hellenon and the Makedonians.
Desperately looking for loyalty from the city of Delphi, Akrotatos begins the march up the mountainous terrain to Antigonos and his army.

Akrotatos sets up his army in his usual formation, missile units, phalanx line (strongest on the right weakest on the left) followed by a few more hoplites as his supports for his flank. Antigonos, surprised at the young generals foolishness, sets his army ontop the mountain allowing his skirmishers to rain panic on the greek line.

Seeing the chance, Antigonos looks to send the army into disarray by charging down hill at the greek skirmishers. He has his own skirmishers follow him for support. Akrotatos, seeing the sudden move orders his missile behind the phalanx forcing the Makedonian king to halt his charge, allowing Akrotatos to seize the moment and charge the Makedonian king himself. Chaos breaks out around the royalties, and finally Antigonos pulls his force away to save calvary. Akrotatos phalanx then begins to reposition itself, just to be charged by Antigonos and his calvary. The second engagement led to Antigonos pulling away again. He then charges Akrotatos again where his remaining calvary fall. He and his last few bodyguard retreat behind the Makedonian phalanx for protection from the Spartan spear.

Akrotatos, gives his army the signal to advance, and Antigonos, ether strategically or in a panic decided to reposition his army. This was enough for Akrotatos to give the signal to charge. Fighting breaks out everywhere, hoplite phalanx's engaging Makedonian phalanxes, and skirmishers would be sent around the back, 1 of 2 events that would leave Akrotatos and his army victorious.

With the 2 army's clashing, the missiles tearing through the Makedonian phalanx, Akrotatos charges Antigonos and his remaining calvary. Both men's bodyguards were engaged and left the 2 royalties fighting by themselves, against each other. Antigonos attempts to take the Spartans head clear off, just to miss and see a Spartan spear stuck into his horse sending the king to the ground. In what some would say a foolish, but honorable move, Akrotatos allowed the king to get up and try to match Akrotatos fighting superiority. The king swings his sword and bashes into a Spartan shield, which very well be the last thing he felt, as Akrotatos' had withdrawn his sword and stabbed the king right through his neck. With the fall of the Makedonian king, his army starts to wavier. Looking to save the army and revenge his family member, Krateros Argeades charges the already casualty inflicted Spartans. Soon Makedonian hoplites surround the Spartans, and Spartans begin to fall. Akrotatos, seeing the death of his captain and longtime friend at the hands of Krateros begins fighting wildly, and soon the last Makedonian royalty on the field lie motionless. With the Makedonians in retreat, Akrotatos' levy hoplites soon rush to save their general, routing the last of the enemy army.

Akrotatos' physical losses from the battle were greater than the Makedonian, but the Makedonian loss was much greater in importance.
    (Did fight up a mountain)

After the death of Antigonos at Akrotatos' hands, Akrotatos becomes known throughtout Southern Greece as a warmonger.

With the fall of Antigonos, Akrotatos expects the negotiations in Delphi to go much smoother, but when news returns that Iphikrates has refused every offer, Akrotatos himself requests a meeting with the king himself.
We enter the kings chambers in Delphi...

Akrotatos looks around the hallways of Delphi, as he is led by a slave to the kings chambers. After what seemed like an endless walk, the slave stops infront of two large, detailed wooden doors and knocks on one of the doors, informing the king that the Prince of Sparte has arrived.

Iphikrates fails to stand as Akrotatos enters the chamber and speaks from his throne "I see no point in this meeting young prince, the city of Delphi will never be controlled by a warmonger and you are not welcome here. I ask you leave my city for your own safety, and you are warned not to bring your war here."

Akrotatos, confused, insulted, and feeling threatened simply responds "As you wish."
Akrotatos, walking back down the endless hallway, can't help but smile as the meeting went just as he had hoped. Iphikrates would be the example he would set for all who resisted the uniting of Greece. After his defeat over Antigonos, and knowing he has two votes behind him in the council with his father and Eudamides, a reason for the assault of Delphi would be made up after the fall of the city.

Spring, 264BC, Akrotatos assaults the walls of Delphi. Setting up his army in his usual formation (missile, phalanx, support) with the breaching rams leading the way.

When the walls fall, Akrotatos himself runs first through the gates of Delphi, yelling the name of king Iphikrates. With a 1/3 of the garrison already shot down by missile units, Iphikrates decides to charge the Spartan phalanx himself. The royalties bash shields and the chaos begins.
(Had an SS of the two bashing shields :/ )

As the royalties fight, Akrotatos is surprised at the combat skills that Iphikrates possessed. However his levies ran to his aid, forcing Akrotatos to slaughter levy's on his way to the king, who managed to slip behind his reinforcements. When the prince finally reaches the king, Iphikrates is unable to make good on his threat as Akrotatos spear pierces the kings stomach, and Iphikrates falls to the ground. Akrotatos, the clear victor of the two royalties, proves it was not his safety in question.

With the loss of their king, Akrotatos and his army move through the city and to the plaza, almost untouched. The city of Delphi was now under the control of Akrotatos, and he plans to hold the first council meeting in the city of Delphi.

Sorry about no SS's, as mentioned earlier they didnt save. To bad their were awesome SS's from these battles.
