Probably would be some small benefit but as it currently is the human player can disband obslote troop and replace those by the new stuff. Since the AI never disbands anything unless I am mistaken.

Disbanding old unit and replacing by the new version can even have an advantage since the new unit will have more chance to get a few command stars.

Not a huge problem in any event, there are plenty of reinforced gates to break and vanilla spearmen and UM do that so well ....

Was so happy when it became possible to retrain the old RK and get the new version in the process. A few will probably remember the times when it was not possible ... Ending up with my best general in a two-men unit was so annoying (a good start for the "not so bold" v&v) that near the end of each period I would spam something like 10/20 old-fashioned RK just to refill my general's unit ... Talk about a high maintenance reserve ...
