Thread: Modifying EDU

  1. #1

    Default Modifying EDU

When I modify a unit in the EDU, the change does not show in game. When I exit the game I notice my EDU file has been overwritten with the original/stock one...

    Anyone else experiencing this problem?

EDIT: This in v1.1. Never had this problem with v1.0.

    The trivial script does this.
You have to make changes to the stock version that the script uses...

how could i change the .RWM file?

    Hi Belliger,

If you make changes that affect the map, then you need to delete the .rwm file in the

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\EB\Data\world\maps\base

folder, when you restart the game it will automatically make a new one and you then need to copy that to the single and multiplayer folders otherwise the old ones in there will overwrite the new one.

    cheers,

The thing is that your game won't generate a new one if you start with the trivial script, the old one will just be replaced and the game won't think to make a new one.

If you make changes to the map files and wish to make a new map.rwm, you'll have to delete your old one, start the game without the trivial script (ie make a old-fashioned shortcut that goes directly to EB), then copy the new map.rwm that is generated to the backup folder. With the new map.rwm in both locations, you can then start using the trivial script again.

    WELL....
i am modifying the EDU file. don't know if this affects the MAP files
have to admit that i am absolutely unexperienced in these things.
what i do is to work on the SP game EDU file,
and then run the game. sometimes it takes the changes.
    sometimes it does not.
often it crashes the game .
    a question:
how to modify EDU? are there some 'sensitive' patterns/abilities/stuff and so on?
i noticed, for instance, that the units with short_pike cannot get the 'testudo' formation.
is there any thread where to see what to do and what to avoid?
    thanks

Use a decent editor. Read this tutorial.

If you are going to make extensive modifications to your EDU (or other export_descr_ files) consider using a diff/merge tool so you can easily port your changes over to bugfixed versions of the stock files as they are released.
In lieu of good text editors... Kate. Notepad++ second. (I have bad experiences --but, when modding you shouldn't run into any of those-- with Crimson and don't really like it all that much.)
