Why are they so super Gaesatae powferful? I can frequently get 600-700 kills while only losing 5-10 men.

I just use them as normal heavy infantry, nothing special, just point them in the direction of the enemy and make them attack.

Ignore the bit about there being so many Galatians as to change the ethnic composition of Fayyum even 2000 years later, though...

Eh, they're just Veteran-grade Celtic shock inf in the usual heavy mail. Neitos with bigger shields basically.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

They are pretty sweet :)
I hate having to face them time & again in the desert wars between Carthage & Ptolomies![]()
About time I had another go at Ptolomies, last time failed miserably against even the Eleutheroi :(
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...
Yeah, you see red- or blonde-headed Egyptians in the Fayyum with greater frequency than you do elsewhere, but there aren't any indicators of specifically northern european genetic markers in the modern Egyptian population. So physically, you might (rarely) see things that make you say "Galatian or Thracian/Balkan descent" based on hair color, skin tone, or facial structure, but genetically, its invisible. Shoot, southern European markers are practically invisible. There were never more than several thousand Galatians in Egypt, among a population estimated to be about 7 million. Less than 1 in 100,000 is not going to have a major genetic impact.Originally Posted by Elmetiacos

I have never played them, but I've killed zillions of them, to me there just decent heavy infantry, because they take time to crack, but they have never posed a nasty threat, my Sarissa inf and Thoratiki flank troops hold them until it's cav and Nellie time.
The AI relies on then to much IMO as alot die on pike tips and having no spears means they don't like it up em when heavy cav repeatedly charge.
For super inf (although they cost more, if that bothers you) I prefer Elite spear troops, because their more versatile.
When you kill hundreds of men and only loose five, what type of troops are you killing, and in what type of situation, ie bridge, straight fight, rear attack etc, and what settings, medium battle with fatigue on?
No matter what the situation they always get the same result.Originally Posted by Digby Tatham Warter

Mmm, I think the former is what we were going for (seeing a few more northern European phenotypes on occasion, as food for thought).Originally Posted by paullus

sure.
and personally i've never had much trouble killing them. they do get produced in numbers that are too large, but that's what'll be great about EB2...we can limit that.
