    Default Eleutheroi general

    Just a small question:

As we all know, EB is devoted to historical accuracy; however, for obvious reasons, the ubiquitous rebel general can't be historically accurate, since he must be always the same everywhere (I'm only talking about appearance here, of course; it "represents" the barbarian chief/local king/whatever as it should).

So, my question is: what is the appearance of the eleutheroi general based upon?

(from keravnos, for correctly recognizing the shield design of the Indohellenikoi Eugeneis Hoplitai as a hippocampus)

I think it is the guy that you will find almost anywhere.

The conical helmet and chainmail was very common. The long pants too.

He could be a North African, a Celt, a Scythian, a Eastern, etc.

He´s good enough, though I must say I´ve started to develope a true hatred for that blue cloak of his. Don´t know why, I just hate it.

I know what you mean. I'd give him a grey cloak to match the grey Elutheroi banner.

We talked about that matter a lot. What sort of armor *could* be found in the largest range of places - on a "captain/general"? A linen or metal cuirass was possible, but we settled on mail. A simple pilos helmet was decided also. We knew we couldn't make it really accurate for the reasons you correctly point out, so we just tried to make it as genericly appropriate as we could. Rob made a few different versions actually, and this is the one we felt was best. Good question though! Two really good questions/observations I have not seen before within the span of one day! Shows there is hope here yet.

It is a sign of recovery from this weekend lol, oh boy...what a bad day it was indeed....I actually thought the guy was legit, especially with his pheonician questions until he started repeating himself...

ANYWAYS! Back to the good ol EB forums the way they were, YAY!! lol

Still, does he have to have a blue cloak? It hurts my eyes!! Can´t he be cloakless, or have a red or purpur cloak to signal his importance and that he´s rich enough to get some red colour?

Blue could be on the expensive as well, though. There's a very good reason why many Medieval art features a lot of blue (sky); more so than red or purple.

Still, if I see one more blue cloak I´m gonna order all forces to kill the bastards wearing it! Which I usually do anyway, so no real change.

Thanks for the answers! I thought it could be something like that (the most generic-looking guy that could reasonably be almost anywhere).

Also thanks for judging me as one of the agents of the forum recovery

About this weekend, I must admit that at first I thought the guy was sincere as well... then I started being suspicious

He should have a black cloak - he is always the villain, after all.
