Thread: Bush elephant memory issue

    Default Bush elephant memory issue

No - I do not mean the elephants have poor memories :)

But the cpu usage when they appear

In a battle recently Lusotan vrs Carthage - the tactical map of the battle was very slow slow right from the start....my fan started take off proceedure......and the battle frame rate changed to about 2 per second or even slower through the course of the battle. CPU usage went up to 50%. Elephants and dead carcasses present throughout the battle.

Have fought several battles against carthage before and after this with the other carthage unit types

    - the only exception I can identify being the bush elephants unit presence.

Anyone else seen this...or is it the red wine again :)

(Have a save game with the battle ready to start ...saved)

Sounds weird. I'm not sure if I've used bush elephants lately, but can't remember ever having a slowdown with them.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

On one hand: yes of course there is a little issue. For you see: bush elephants means: 1) extra model to keep in mind, on account of the elephants themselves; 2) additional work to keep the archers/mahouts/javelinmen positioned correctly. 'sides the single most memory & cpu consuming thing about battles is lot's of different models - it's basically the only thing the engine needs to calculate something about...

On the other hand: it is more likely that your battle coincided with a massive forced garbage collection (forced by your OS) to keep your PC from crashing. (RTW has a bad habit of letting memory leaks appear...) And you mightve possibly been fighting a rather large/diverse battle? Not by any chance, some conflict over a particular city?

It was a conflict over a city.

As besieger....I was attacked by the ellies...and the defenders also reinforcing the ellies.

There was a divergence of unit types, not sure you would count it as large. Six my side, seven the Carthage side including ellies.

    The city was Siga btw.

Yeah, cities just tend to incur a performance hit. That'll explain it probably.

Can rule out the ellies....fought them twice last night without a nearby city and no issues.

First time was stomped....second time managed to trim their horns.

So looks like it was the city....
