    Default Textures and Speed Issues

I have installed EB for the first time (1.1), I was running Rome Total War 1.5 I had no trouble in the battle map but the campaign was a little bit stuttering. Now when I run EB I get 7 FPS on the campaign map, it is driving me insane trying to play it like that.

Is it possible for us to put the old textures back (I already tried the sea textures and it made a little effect) and not lose any gameplaying advancements of EB

    Thanks in advance.

It has nothing to do with the textures, we have kept original texture sizes. It is all the background information that the game has to deal with, like the script, which is far larger than anything RTW dealt with. Try turning of the shadows on the campaign map (in the options menu whilst on the campaign map).

In other words, you can change the textures back but it won't change anything. Its the script and the txt files that are causing the slow down for you. Time for a memory upgrade I think.

I've noted that scrolling the map with the keyboard stutters a lot, while scrolling with the mouse is perfectly fluid. I don't know if this is only my case or it is common (well, I don't even know if this makes sense ), but if you are scrolling with the keyboard, try to use the mouse instead.

@Digby Tatham Warter: on my "old" computer I had 1 GB of ram and the game worked quite well... the campaign map was perfect (I had to turn off shadows and AA) while the battle map worked well, I had to tune down the settings in the bigger battles... however 1 GB was enough to play decently

I only have a 1-gig ram and I am running it on a laptop. Usually my crappy onboard ati was the major problem for playing games but I think it is different now because battles are more gpu eating than the campaign map and they run OK.

I really want to play EB, if only there was a way to speed it up a little bi it will be playable.

By the way shadows are already turned off on the campaign map, I do not care much about the graphics so everything is at its lowest setting.

I would really appreciate any kind of speed up suggestion (except telling me to defrag my HDD, or clean my registry, or clean spyware etc. my computer is pretty neat and clean the way it is.)

    Thanks

If you want to, you can delete the Client Ruler portion of the script, which should make your campaign map quite a bit faster. It's about half the script so you can probably double your speed or somewhere around there. It just means you won't ever get client rulers whne you build allied state governments.

If you want to do this, go to your \EB\Data\scripts\show_me. Open up your EBBS_SCRIPT.txt and delete everything in the Puppet section, it should be the first part of the script. I think that's how it would work. Just make sure to backup beforehand as I have never tried this.
