Blame all the crazy spam this weekend and continual flaming in various threads here for the closing. Much of the team is fed up with it. We are trying to work on EB2 for the most part now, while still supporting EB1 and working on some tweaks for it still, but the behavior has clearly deteriorated in the public forum here lately and is taking too much of our time (that should be spent modding) to worry with and clean up. The forum is here to support EB. EB is not here to support the forum.

I could understand that if it was originally started as a serious thread, but the whole point of it was just so people could talk. It's not as if it had degenerated into a massive flaming war or anything. It was pretty civil and respectful, no?

To come back to my previous question, did we flame? We never let it slip too far, even though some arguments got quite hot-headed, everyone cooled down after a while and enjoyed a good time just chatting randomly with people, and that is very rare for forums. The guys that visited the Tavern were really mature guys, and the fact that we could chill out after an argument made the thread so rare.

Almost a year, and the fact that the TW.org forums is in my bookmarks is partially because of the EB Tavern. I hang around at multiple forums, but these are second in my list of bookmarks, and I really thought the EB Tavern was a great opportunity, and in that case a rare opportunity, for us EB-ers to relax and chat with eachother.[/dramaticspeech]

In any case, this is not a plea to open up the Tavern again. It's your decision, and with all the flaming lately, I can hardly disagree with the fact that perhaps it was indeed a prudent thing to do. It just means I probably won't be visiting the forums that often.

We'll review the Tavern thread after awhile, until then it will remain closed, and any other spam threads will be closed and remain forever closed.

Think of it as EB marshall law, until respect and order returns to the forum, this will be the way of things from now on.

BTW, the ban stick is very close to coming out for a few people, so be sensible.

It's actually a welcome stance to take in my book, there have been criminal amounts of spam posted recently, obviously I would've prefered the Tavern getting away with it though.

At least there is hope of a reprieve.

No one man is to blame for this, it's a culmination of bad behaviour from quite a few people that has caused this.

We feel the standard has really slipped in the last few months, especially in the last week or so, so we are coming down like a ton of proverbial bricks on the offenders and offences.

I won't argue with you Teleklos, yet I'm sure the team sees what is going on and who is the real criminal behind this weekend of flaming (Might I point out that it was in fact a full moon yesterday?).

How about a compromise everyone? Why doesn't the EB team find someone from the people that visit the EB forums and make him a moderator. I would most certainly take all the trouble you have off your hands. I'm sure there are trustworthy individuals that would uphold the law and make sure that idiot threads/flaming would are as scarce as LS in EB. If don't trust someone to take care of the entire forum, why not give him limited moderator abilities just for the topic (I'm not sure it can be done, but why not create an EB"Talk/Tavern" subforum and give him rights there).

I know it would take time that the team doesn't have and that you're fed up with everything, I'm sure most members of the Order and others would agree with you. I know how it feels. I also get fed up with stupid people asking the same questions over and over again. WE TOLD YOU A MILLION TIMES!!! Unfortunately we must accept it a a part of life.

What I suggest for now is for everyone (The Team and forum-goers) to take some time off, blow off some steam somewhere else. Be productive, do something good for the entire forum. I'm sure, that in time, things will normalise enough for the Tavern to resume it's operation.

I apologise for any spelling mistakes and sentences that don't make much sense, as it's late and I've been crunching numbers for the better part of the day, so I'm tired. I also apologise for any misunderstandings that might occur while reading this post.

The idea behind something like the Tavern is to allow people to do some of their spam-like or casual discussions in one particular place. If it actually diverts spam into a single place, it works. However, it seemed more to encourage spam elsewhere (and note, if you look at the last few pages, that it was a lot more of a spam fest than a conversation-place, though y'all are right that it wasn't exclusively spam).

Perhaps Gertrude is solely responsible for the spamming of the past week, but the Tavern seems to us to have been part of what has become a spam-friendly environment. As has been noted, we'll evaluate things. I want you to have somewhere to talk about random things and develop a forum community. I don't want our forum to degenerate into so many spam threads. So be patient, please, while we figure out the best way to proceed, and I trust that y'all will agree with us that something needs to be done to make the forum a civil place--all the spam threads will not do.

While I recognize the need to control the rampant spamming, closing the one thread intended for off-topic discussion is a befuddling decision.
