    Default Play Settings

We all know that the recommended settings are VH/M, but I didn't like the game so much like that. It's been said a thousand times: it's no fun fighting several stacks per turn.

I usually play H/M, but I set it at H/H in my last Romani campaign, and it was a blast. I found it to be a really good balance. Usually on Medium battle difficulty, units rout a bit too easily for my tastes. On Hard settings routs could still happen if timed well, but the enemy was much more resilient. Battles were longer and more bitter, and I actually lost sometimes.

So my new favorite settings are H/H. Share yours.

Hard/Medium, but I'm thinking should I start again I'll go M/M or maybe even E/M if it means the AI is much slower at attacking each other.
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)

    VH/VH....those were the days...

back in .8 i had an epeiros campaign that stretched from rome to chersonesos...and no cheating...

oh well, i kinda got used to medium battle, very hard difficulty.

I dont think I can stomach trying to make all those damned pedites extraordinari break with a single family member again lmao

M/M - enough enemy stacks to keep you busy, unit balance is ok,and AI has the common sense of a 5 year old(well it's better than none at VH campaign difficulty)
I've also noticed that at M campaign difficulty if you make an alliance with the AI when you don't have a common border then when you do have one(a common border that is)it will take longer for them to turn on you.Ceasfires are still very hard to get though...

I played with VH/M in 1.0, but there were TOO MANY STACKS!!!

I actually became bored with EB!!! Is that even possible?!
Too many battles... but strangely the AI did not betray me that much. Maybe because I was (and still am) on ALX.exe? Dunno.

Now I'm trying H/M, but I just started so I can't judge yet.

Campaign Very Hard, Battles Very Easy.

So does VH campaign give the AI free money or something? Or does it lower their recruitment/maintenance costs or something?

I've always kind of felt like it does but never had any hard proof to say so.

Gives every AI faction 10,000 bonus mnai every turn - in addition to that given by the economy script to stop them going bankrupt. And not taking into account the script that replaces population losses through recruitment.

I guess 10000 per turn makes sense for vanilla... where units are cheap.

Not sure how 10000 mnai per turn in EB revenue results in stacks and stacks of elites though... you could only train a 3-6 per turn on 10k and upkeep would let you maintain maybe 10-20 elite units...

I guess I'm wondering when people say playing on VH campaign they get stacks and stacks of elites thrown at them... I've never had that... there tend to be more elites but it's usually not much more.. and by the time everyone's economy develops that 10k isn't exactly significant..

In my first Roman campaign I did M/M, but I gave up by 130 BC because I screwed up by not remembering to activate the script so I never got reforms, and I also just started off too slowly since it was my first time playing. However, I still probably would've been screwed because Carthage and Sweboz each created gigantic empires by that time and were assaulting me with army after army every single turn. That got annoying, not to mention somewhat unrealistic, so I started a new campaign at E/M and it seems to be playing out much more realistic. You guys must be awesome at this game to be going at VH/VH Sadly I'm not that good
