Default Eating Habits and Pet Peeves

Are there any things that you do that when eating that annoy people... or how about you just name something that you hate to see people do when eating. Chewing with your mouth open etc.

It annoys me when people eat finger/hand food with a knife and fork, like pizza (in Australia it's mainly people that eat a pie with a knife and fork). I also get annoyed at people who eat hot chips with a dip of mayo and tomato sauce/ketchup. Well not really annoy me but I find it silly. Mayo! Of all the dips it's mayonnaise! With me though, I've been told by others that I have a habit of chatting with my mouth full... which I feel I am wrongly accused, if they ask me a question when I'm chewing I can either look rude by not answering their question (Trying to swallow what I'm eating) or look rude by answering while spitting tiny bits of food out of mouth... Disgusting eh. But either way I will be rude one.

In that situation, I turn my head slightly and cover my mouth and talk or motion towards my mouth/hold up my hand in a way that says "wait a second" to indicate im going to finish this mouthful before i talk.

My sister somehow managed to get meat sauce from pasta in the back of her hair...

How interesting Pevergreen. I wonder how she managed that..
But you're Australian, how do you eat your pies?

And yeah, I'll put up my hand too, but sometimes I just honestly forget. Honestly...

Guilty as charged. But only in fancy restaurants, when they serve a really soggy pizza with a really thin base. Is there any way of eating it with your hands without getting it everywhere?

As for my own food weirdness, any attempt to steal food off my plate is unforgivable and likely to result in the loss of a finger.

Also, broccoli. It's not food, that's why it tastes so foul. People should stop trying to pretend it is.

Pie = hands! Unless it's apple pie, then spoon!

Anyway, dunno what I do that annoys people, but my Dad, well he uses his teeth rather than lips to pull food off of his fork, thus creating a annoying scraping noise!

Hey!!! My father ate his fries with mayonnaise when I grew up. He was the only person I knew that did this. A little older I asked him about it.
This is what he said: "This is how they serve it in Australia".

(He was a sailor in his youth).

I eat fries with a 50/50 mix of mayo and Chinese red chili paste. Nothing like it.

My kid, one of them anyway, pulls all the toppings off the pizza slice with a fork, eats the crust, then eats the toppings off the plate. That weirds me out.

What else? I slurp my tea very loudly, which annoys Mrs. Beirut very greatly.

Also, I will tear the house to shreds looking for my favorite spoon to eat my cereal with. She doesn't understand that at all. And, except for perhaps a steak, I eat everything from a big bowl. I never eat off a plate. I used to have a favorite metal bowl but she hid it because the noise of the fork on the metal was killing her. Now I use a big ceramic bowl. It's not as good.

People eat pie with their hands? I think that would count as something that would wierd me out a little.

When I was in South America people would drink coke from those little single serving bottles using a straw. Same with bottles of water. I'm pretty sure quite a few of them thought I was odd for drinking out of the bottle.

indeed! I had two pizza's tonight and my hands was dirty as a pig on a rainy day... gotta love that.

if there's more then 1 kg of food in my mouth I will usually wait, but with smaller amounts I will answer. (usually I can keep things clean) People get more annoyed by having to wait 5 seconds then by .. ah well, you know.

Im Australian yes, but I dont eat pies.
I try too avoid them as well. Though in situations where it's either eating pie or losing my life I use a fork to eat it.

Also, I will tear the house to shreds looking for my favorite spoon to eat my cereal with. She doesn't understand that at all. And, except for perhaps a steak, I eat everything from a big bowl. I must say I love a certain spoon as well. Yet, I haven't braught it to my 'college home', so I can't enjoy my cereal as much.. I do use plates, but I tend to eat with only a single spoon. Sometime in a simple eating place here, a soup, a salad, the main meal (this can't have too big solid parts, of course, otherwise I'll need a fork as well) and ice cream all with that spoon. I'm quite monogamic.

I'm pretty sure quite a few of them thought I was odd for drinking out of the bottle.
lol. I actually prefer a bottle for most drinks. most of the time, I even prefer beer from a bottle instead of a glass.. and really cold.

It also annoys me when people refuse to do shots.
I usually do it, unless people want me to shoot something that really disgusts me. (and that's actually most of the liquors)

In most, dare I say it, third-world countries they'll sell soft-drink in a glass bottle, the idea is so people don't throw them down and leave them on the side of the walkway like some would do with a plastic bottle. You're supposed to drink using a straw so they can recycle them hygienically (I think). In Indonesia (the only third world country I've been to) if you try and take a glass bottle away from where you purchased it they'll say (using all the power of their limited English) "Hey! Hey! Put bottle here, I give you plastic bag," They'll pour the remainder into a plastic bag, put a straw into it and tie it up with a rubber band. Now you have a take-away soft-drink...
Oh, they also sell their tea in a glass bottle, just a random fact I wanted to throw in.

I cannot stand people who make those little orgasmic faces when they first sample their food. It might be good, but it's just food-I don't make a face like that unless something's going on under the table.

I also dislike people who take whisky with ice; the worst are the ones who ask me incredulously if I want ice when they see I'm drinking it neat. It's a 25 year old Laphroaig so thanks, I'm good.

Interesting. In the country I was in (Paraguay) they used plastic bottles but if they did something like that in the neighboring countries it might explain why they were so fond of straws.

I talk with my mouth full...I have mastered the art, and have not shot gobs all over people since I was 6. ...I try not to think about it...

Also, I have gotten into fights because people have stolen my food, so I would say that that has to be on here somewhere. It is my food, I bought it, not you, keep your grubby little hands off of it!

I eat pie with a fork...

I dip my fries in mayonaise...(or arby's sauce, if it is handy)

    BROCCOLI IS GOOD

I am not picky about silverware, only cups. I have this little coffee cup with a little chip on the side of it. it is the only cup I have used in the past 3 months.

I dislike people who complain about using chopsticks.

I slurp...and it drives my grandmother up the walll.

I hate it when people eat soo fast and gob everyone around them.

I dislike picky people. (probably because I have to cook for so many of them...)

I'm a picky person. I freak out when I find a hair in my food... especially strangely curly ones... I also freak out when a fly lands on piece of food at say an outdoor BBQ. No nothings wrong with that, but if it just lands on it for a tiny fraction of a second I cannot eat it. I've gone through some pretty extreme measures to ensure I do not eat that exact piece of food - Like if it landed on a chicken wing, I'd peel off that piece of skin that the fly landed on... Pretty weird when I explain it like that, but still, picky people person here.

About those that eat pie with a fork... you wouldn't understand unless you've been to Australia and had a pie. If you ever go to Australia, do not what ever you do eat your pie like this guy:

    Alright, time to sell out.

I eat my food too fast to my wife's annoyance. She doesn’t mind to much when we eat at home, but when we are at a dinner party she will fume if I am the first one done.
I don’t know if any of you have served in the military, but when you have two minutes to eat, you learn how to get the stuff down quickly. I just can’t return to civil life on this one point.

No peeves here.. I am a pretty tolerant person.
