Can't ally w/ people???

I've been playing as the Seleukids, and I was at war with the Ptolemies, while I was neutral to the allies of the Ptolemies - that is KH and Carthage. Now I've eliminated the Ptolemies, and the KH and Carthage are friendly - they accept trade rights. BUT the very option 'alliance' isn't there, just like before, when they were allied to my enemies. But Carthage's only enemy is the Eleutheroi and their only ally is Rome (really historical;)) whom I'm allied to as well - so I see no problem there. And as for KH they were at war with my allies, the Macedons, but then they were eliminated so now there isn't any reason that I can think of there either... i don't get it ;/

That happened a few times to me too. There was no reason why i shouldn't be able to ally with a faction, but the option was not there

. I guess it's a RTW glitch

You should check on the allies of your enemies

That'll explain you everything.

(It's not something EB did, it's something hard wired into RTW 1.5 intended to prevent a well-known exploit...)

I don't think you are able to ally with a faction if you have destroyed one of their allies, even if you were never at war with them.

Allying with the allies of your enemies to obtain peace. Worked for the AI also: if you were doing great against faction Y they often quickly allied to your ally X thereby ending the war. Whoever would restart the war would lose an alliance as well...

Yes, but if you afterwards go to war with said survivor faction, and then again make peace, the alliance option should be visible iirc.

doesn't look like it... KH went to war with me, then made peace (and continued in this rhytm 60 times since they lost every invading army, while I never bothered to cross to Greece) - and alliance is still impossible... But if carthage allies with ptolematoi, then that means that ill never - in this campaign - EVER get to be ally of Carthage - since Ptollies never make peace, so i cant ally w/ carthage while ptollies are alive, and if ptollies are destroyed, i cant ally w/ Carthage?????
