Those maps are pretty simplistic, they give you a general idea, but aren't that accurate.
Eg: The religion maps, for something that is so easy to get correct info on, they kinda screwed around with the area coverage:
1. Expansion is too political. The Balkans weren't „muslimised”.
2. Part of Romania is shown as lacking Christianity even in a quite late period, the area accepted the religion early on (2nd-3rd century AD) because of the monotheistic tendencies of Zalmoxianism.
3. Expansion of Christianity into Poland and Russia is shown too late.
4. Modern Islam-Hindu border isn't too correct
5. The religions shown do not dominate 100% of the globe as the map suggests.
6. Too few important religions shown. (various types of polytheism, animism, ancestor worship, Atenism, Zoroastrianism, Shinto, philosophic religions, Zalmoxianism, Mithra worship, Isis worship, Jainism, Baha'i, splits in Christianity, Islam, Buddhism)
7. Lack of a late atheification.
