Sounds like you're trying to get the best results possible, all the time, using saving/reloading. If that's how you like to play, by all means go ahead, but I'd like to suggest you play a turn and take your wins/losses in stride.
It makes the game more satisfying knowing that you reached that point "honestly". If you play a certain battle again and again, you will eventually find a way to win taking the least amount of casualties; but commanders of that day didnt have the luxury, and had to rely only on their past experience through trial and error.
I've had great generals take bad defeats, had 1500 men armies routed, but my empire lived on for another hundred years. And it is just as fun to think of the ones that got away than the ones you won.. not to mention the great feeling of retribution you get when you slaughter that army that trampled on you the turn before...
