Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why?
Some are born; some men die
    Beneath one infinite sky.
There'll be war, there'll be peace.
But everything one day will cease.
    All the iron turned to rust;
All the proud men turned to dust.
And so all things, time will mend.
    So this song will end.

    Childhoods End - Pink Floyd.

    La solitudine fra noi
    Questo silenzio dentro me
    È l`inquietudine di vivere
    La vita senza te
    Ti prego aspettami perché
    Non posso stare senza te
Non è possibile dividere la storia di noi due

    Laura Pausini - La Solitudine

    E' un mondo difficile
    e vita intensa
    felicita' a momenti
    e futuro incerto
    il fuoco e l'acqua
    con certa calma
    serata di vento
    e nostra piccola vita
    e nostro grande cuore

    e vita intensa
    felicita' a momenti
    e futuro incerto

No puedo convencer a mi corazon
si yo no dudo y estoy seguro que el tiene razon
No voy a asesinar esa sensacion

    Been buildin' up a few.

"Wanna live, wanna have children, don't have to worry about war..."
    -Buffalo Killers, "Children of War"

"Oh, my... city life's in dusk,
    my head's about to bust
    from all the smoke...
Oh, my... back's about to break,
I took all I could take,
    not anymore...

    Deep, in the dark night, I hold my pillow tight;
dream, of a better place, of a better life."
-The Brought Low, "A Better Life" (if it sounds cheesy, it's because they're a southern rock band.)

    "Sisters and brothers, daddies, mothers
    standin'around cryin'...
When I reached the scene, the flames were
    makin' a ghostly WHINE...
So I stood on my horse's back,
and I screamed without a crack,
I said, oh, baby, why did you burn your...
    brother's house down?"
    -Jimi Hendrix, "House Burning Down"

    "What's there to live for?
    Who needs the peace corps?
    Think I'll just DROP OUT
    I'll go to Frisco
    Buy a wig & sleep
    On Owsley's floor

    Walked past the wig store
    Danced at the Fillmore
    I'm completely stoned
    I'm hippy & I'm trippy
I'm a gypsy on my own
    I'll stay a week & get the crabs &
    Take a bus back home
    I'm really just a phony
    But forgive me
    'Cause I'm stoned

Every town must have a place
    Where phony hippies meet
    Psychedelic dungeons
    Popping up on every street
    GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya Frisco!
How I love ya, How I love ya
How I love ya, How I love ya
Oh, my hair is getting good in the back!

Every town must have a place
    Where phony hippies meet
    Psychedelic dungeons
    Popping up on every street
    GO TO SAN FRANCISCO . . .

    Hotcha!

    First I'll buy some beads
And then perhaps a leather band
    To go around my head
    Some feathers and bells
And a book of Indian lore
I will ask the Chamber Of Commerce
How to get to Haight Street
And smoke an awful lot of dope
    I will wander around barefoot
I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times
    I will love everyone
I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street
    I will sleep . . .
I will, I will go to a house
    That's, that's what I will do
I will go to a house
    Where there's a rock & roll band
'Cause the groups all live together
And I will join a rock & roll band
I will be their road manager
And I will stay there with them
And I will get the crabs
    But I won't care
    Because . . . "
-Frank Zappa and the Mothers, "Who Needs the Peace Corps?"

    "Tiny purple fishes
    run laughing through your fingers,
and you want to take her
to the heartland of the winter..."
    -Cream, "Tales of Brave Ulysses"

Don't actually like the song so much because of the sound effects at the start but another Pink Floyd one where the lyrics really hit home; Time:

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but youre older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

    erm, OK I'm depressed again!

Dire Straits - Telegraph Road - marginally less melancholic...
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
A long time ago came a man on a track
Walking thirty miles with a pack on his back
And he put down his load where he thought it was the best
Made a home in the wilderness
He built a cabin and a winter store
And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore
And the other travellers came riding down the track
And they never went further, no, they never went back
Then came the churches then came the schools
Then came the lawyers then came the rules
Then came the trains and the trucks with their loads
And the dirty old track was the telegraph road

Then came the mines - then came the ore
Then there was the hard times then there was a war
Telegraph sang a song about the world outside
Telegraph road got so deep and so wide
    Like a rolling river. . .

And my radio says tonight its gonna freeze
People driving home from the factories
    There's six lanes of traffic
Three lanes moving slow. . .

I used to like to go to work but they shut it down
I got a right to go to work but theres no work here to be found
Yes and they say were gonna have to pay whats owed
Were gonna have to reap from some seed thats been sowed
And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the telegraph road

You know Id sooner forget but I remember those nights
When life was just a bet on a race between the lights
You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair
Now you act a little colder like you dont seem to care
But believe in me baby and Ill take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day
From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names
cos Ive run every red light on memory lane
Ive seen desperation explode into flames
And I dont want to see it again. . .

From all of these signs saying sorry but were closed
All the way down the telegraph road

Risin' up, back in the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive

So many times, it happens to fast,
you change your passion for glory,
don't lose your grip in the dreams of the past
you must fight to keep them alive

Its the eye of the tiger, the cream of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge of the rival
And the last survivor that stalk his prey in the night
And its watching us with the eye of the tiger...

Two broken Tigers on fire in the night
Flicker their souls to the wind
We wait in the lines for the final approach to begin.
It's been almost four years that I've carried a gun.
At home it will almost be spring
The flames of the Tigers are lighting the road to Berlin.
    Al Stewart, Roads to Moscow

The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too,
'Twas the Witch of November come stealin'

On a slightly more serious note, though, Pink's Dear Mr. President was pretty damn good. Open Letters FTW! First two lines of this verse were really good:
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
    And:
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work...
    Powerful lyrics...

    I love the cryptic...

    In the sad town
    Cold iron hands
Clap the party of clowns outside
Rain falls in gray far away
    Please, please, Baby Lemonade.

    Don't you pretend
