Having a scripted story is not a negative thing in itself. If it's a good story, having a scripted story is good. If it's not...

It's all about how it's laid up. A game can be completely linear with just one possible way out of every room (naturally not counting the way you came from) and still be absolutely awesome: all it takes is to always make it so you'll want to take just that way, that it's the one that would make sense. Sometimes a scripted story exactly what a game needs too; in fact, the reason why I love RPGs, but not MMORPGs, is because of the scripted story: it's what gives purpose to the game. If I'm just suppose to hit things till I level up, I don't see any point in playing.

    That's my $0.02, anyway.

depends on the player I guess.

Anygame with a forced or "No game except this scripted story" automaticly gets thrown away for me.

A game has to have freedom of choice, like EB, X3 Reunion, EVE, gal-civ2 and the like.

It just feels like theres no point in playing if I can't choose what to do.

Would you play RTW if all there was Rome and you could only use a specific army, that could only march specific paths and could only conquer specific provinces in a specific order and conquer them using only specific tactics?

    Well I know I wouldn't.
