Searched to see if this problem has been reported but came up with no matches. If it has and I'm just lousy at coming up with search terms I appologize.

Ok, first time for me playing the Byzantines. I started with an 8 star King, and currently have 6 heirs of age. Heirs 1 through 3 were 8 stars, 7 stars, and 8 stars respectively. The 4th heir has 0 stars, but a starting valor of 9, mighty warrior, but lazy. Odd but ok. The 5th heir is another 8 star general. Finally the 6th heir... another 0 star general with 9 valor! Tried figuring out what was going on. Then it gets really odd...

I fight a battle, led by the King, with number 4 son present (his first battle). Trounce the enemy rather thoroughly, making sure that number 4 son gets some swings end. The battle summary listed the following statistics for him...

    Valor: -3
    Kills: 29
    Captures: 122
    Losses: 3

He never routed during the battle. With 29 kills and 122 captures this seemed really odd that he would lose 3 valor. Add to that the fact that with an 8 star dad and 8/7 star brothers it seemed like this had to be some type of bug.

Possibly a bug with saving a heirs stats in game file when he's born? Kinda like the number of stars take 5 bits, yet only have 4 bits to save into? Any way, was wondering if anyone else had run into something similar. I'm going to take number 6 son into battle tonight and see what happens with him.

I noticed several times that my units lose valour during the fight if they dont kill enuff of enemy and suffer damage them self.

    i.e:
My chiv. serg. intact unit, 100 men, valour 2
they kill 30 men and take 20 men in damage and then they lose 1 valour. (This is not the exact numbers im just showing an example)

So if a high valour unit takes to much damage and dont alot of enemy they lose valour. Atleast thats what i think. And seen a couple of times.

During one of my battles I saw one of my units started of with 1 in valour, go up to 3 in the middle of the battle then b4 it the battle ended it was down to 1 again.

The game keeps track of every single little soldier, and how far he has gone.

That means, if the 20 super Elite monster killer soldiers dies and leaves the 80 green untrained newbies behind, you end up with a general lower Valour for the unit.

A soldier han never lose Valour (unless he is a general then he can get certain Vices).

Is he still alive? Has any of the V&Vs changed? If he's not, then they simply lost the valour bonus he was cntributing to the unit.

Each man in the unit has it's own valour. The unit valour is the average of all men's valours. If you have a couple of high valour veterans in the unit, they'll raise the average, but if they die, the unit's valour will drop. Same thing happens with retraining.

Yes the heir lived (commander of the unit, but he was not the general of the army...his dad the King was.) This was also the first battle that he had taken part in. So, unless they give out random individual valor ratings to the men in the unit, it had no kills/captures yet. And no, I checked v&v's right after that battle and he hadn't picked up any new ones (still only had his starting 2 v&v's)

Still seems like there is something fishy (bug) about it all though. The starting command rating being so far different from all his brothers, as well as starting with a valor of 9. Put on top of that a 3 valor drop during his first battle when he had done fairly well. (I mean 151 kills/captures isn't to shabby). Just doesn't seem to add up.

Yeah, I mentioned this in another thread (actually another board I think). I had a good King that I'd nurtured up to about 7 stars, full influence etc. etc. He was getting excellent heirs (though not as high as yours - somewhere around 6 or 7). THen suddenly an heir popped out with 8 command stars and valour 9!! Gradually I disposed of the King (over 60 anyway) and 2 heirs to get this 8-star guy on the throne. I also continued fighting battles with him. Couldn't wait to see his heirs. First heir was born with zero stars. Second heir was born with........ zero stars. And he never had anymore, Doh!!!

I never checked their valour in battle (stupid me never thought since I rarely check F1 due to 'inconsistencies'). ANyway, I won 7 battles before he got a single star so it MUST have been negative.

I too believe it maybe a bug. My theory is that Valour/Command rating must be capped (that part is true I believe) and when they get too high 'wraps round' into negative values.

It jolly well browned me off I can tell you - having to continue the game with a negative valour king. I never really got command rating back up before the end of the game - the best being 3-4 stars.
