    Default export descr character traits

    Hi There,

I was curious to learn more about traits. I downloaded and installed a 'trait editor' designed by Brighdaasa, which looked like a useful tool. I tried it out on a version of the export_descr_character_traits file modded by the Blood, Broads & Bastards team.

The Traits Editor seems well designed and easy to use. But I have no knowledge or expertise in this area. If I make changes in the export_descr_character_traits file, what else must I do to make these changes show up in the game? Are there other files to edit? If so, which ones, and what must be done?

Finally, when looking at the edited EDCT file I noticed something odd. Under the trait 'level', instead of saying 'family' it said 'ily'. Instead of saying 'loves_father' it said 'es_father'. Instead of 'love_Dad' it had 've_Dad' or 'ove_Dad'. And 'bad_blood' was 'd_blood'. Under 'effect' it had 'effect rale' and 'effect tpoints' and 'effect ty'.

Is this normal or are these errors?

I'd really appreciate some guidance here. Many thanks in advance for replies.

that's really unlikely to work with those random seeming errors in!

If the editor is doing that to it I'd recommend going back to original version and making changes by hand in normal text editing program (notepad etc.)

EDCT is pretty similar to RTW one and Squid made a good guide about that, in case you can't find anything more M2 specific:
    https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=91312

to get new traits to work in game you also need to add the text for them into
data/text/export_vnvs.txt.strings.bin - to do that use Alpaca's strings-bin converter to make it into normal looking text file first. Re-name the old strings.bin file so game doesn't find it - it will then regenerate from your revised text file when you re-start game.

you shouldn't have to change other files beyond that so long as you don't remove traits! Actually wouldn't recommend trying to remove traits at all, adjust triggers instead if you want anything to stop appearing.

    Hi Makanyane,

Many thanks for this reply - very helpful indeed. I'm printing out the tutorial from your link and will study it. I'll also go back to the original EDCT file to check for that random stuff. Again, many thanks!
