    Default Minimod-project: Syracuse. Need Help!

    Heeello EB-folks!

    I'm been trying to transform KH into a Syracuse-faction.

    No succes so far! :S So I'm looking for help.

    Lets together, in a historic team effort, do this!

    In a first step I wanted to make the city of Syracuse to belong to the KH-faction. But i'm getting an error...

    what is wrong? I'm pretty sure i have deleted the right things in the "slave"-section..



    If you can help with this, we could start discussing how a Syracuse faction symbol would look like. And what color? I suggest blue, since the Syracuse-hoplite is kinda bluish


    BTW: This do not mess with the script right? I dont think it will... What about chaging the name of the faction? Would that mess it up?

    I have seen a "Migration" style mod that gives KH only Syracuse and one family member to start the game. That is not a separate faction per-se, but it is a simplified method of accomplishing this goal. I believe that that person uploaded save games in several different unit sizes/difficulty levels. They were in a thread in the main forum about two weeks ago, so you should check out that person's upload.
    Alternatively, you could place a KH family member in Syracuse by placing them in the same coordinates as that city using show_cursorstat, and making sure to remove all rebel forces from the same coordinates. An easy way to do this would be to switch the location coordinates of the greek FM in athens with the coordinates of the rebel FM in Syracuse. Essentially you would then give Athens to rebels, and Syracuse to the KH. You could place all of the KH family members right outside of Syracuse as well, and simply put Macedonian, Epirote, or Ptolemy armies in their place (Sparta and Rhodes). That way on the first turn of the game the entire family of the KH would be located at/near Syracuse while Athens/Rhodes/and Sparta would instantly revert to control of whatever armies you had placed there. I think that that would be the easiest way to create a Syracuse faction, with only a minor possibility of a CTD if you accidentally left two different armies in the same coordinate. I think that I (with only amateur modding experience) could in fact do exactly as I have stated above. The key is to find the coordinate locations of the family members you want to move (shown in the desc_strat file next to their names I think, or at least in another nearby text file) and then find where you want to move them to (Syracuse) by using the Show_cursorstat command. Then you simply replace the old location of that FM with the new one, and make sure you move any other armies (rebels, etc) out of those coordinates so you avoid a CTD. Then you have to rename the KH which is easily done, although I cannot tell you how, as I have never done it myself. Finally, change the colors - again I do not know how to do that. If you want to change units or family names, I cannot give advice on how to do that either, although I have had good luck mapping mercenary units into an existing barracks system (but not with this mod specifically). Anyway, those are my suggestions, and I hope that they are useful to you in your desire to create a unique Syracuse faction.

    Yes, you can do it that way. I tried. (But that save-file you talking about is for 1.0)

    The problem doin it that way I found out is:

    1. If you move your generals to syracuse you would have spartans and Athenians governing syracuse. :P

    If you decide to kill all your generals and bribe Hiero(the client ruler in Syracuse) to your side. The problems would be that:

    1. As far as I know it impossible to kill your generals kids... so in a couple of years you will have spartans and Athenians growing up in Syracuse.

    2. Hiero is a client ruler, so if you bribe him, he cant move. :/

    Anyone know a way around these problems?

    But if you can live with them.. I guess it works...

    Just Outside Syracuse For The Greeks And Take The Empty Town Off The Start Of The Game

    I don't know enough about the ethnicities of the KH, but if their is a "Syracusian" ethnicity, perhaps you could add that to the starting KH f/m and remove athenian/spartan/rhodian. Then you would have an ethnically pure factionand you wouldn't have to bribe or kill anyone off (just move them to sicily).

    You could remove the children from the descr_strat.txt at the start of the game - that would keep them from being "born" later when you don't want them popping up.

    Couldn't you just remove the client ruler trait from Hiero and give him and all starting units to KH while removing all other starting family members and giving Hiero a son or two?

    I play KH most of the time and u get family members from everywhere there is greek culture including Syracuse.

    This is a brief explanation that I gave in a different thread on how to use the method that I suggest to give KH ownership of Syracuse at the begining of the game. In this post I was trying to explain how to remove a FM from Athens, and replace him with the FM/garrison from another faction. This is similar in principle to removing the rebels in Syracuse, and replacing them with an existing KH FM/garrison.

    "You don't have to switch ownership at all, just remove the FM/ army from Athens (or wherever) and put an army from whatever faction you want into Athens. The result is that Athens will immediately become whatever faction occupies it's city. I swear, I have done exactly that with good results. Use show_cursorstat to find the coordinates of Athens, and then search the desc_strat file for those coordinates using the edit function, and that will show you the FM/garrison that is in those coordinates. Move that FM/garrison to another location (using new coordinates found with show_cursorstat) and then place whoever you want into the Athens coordinates. Viola, Athens belongs to a different faction, and KH's army is on Syracuse (or wherever you choose to put it). The coordinates will look something like this (X34, Y45) and that is how everything is placed on the map at the beginning of the game. Editing the coordinates next to the FM's in the desc_strat file moves their initial location. I am telling you that in my experience this is the easiest method of giving any faction control over any city at the begining of the game. Only one file has to be edited, but back up the original, and don't get greedy (make one modification at a time) as any mistake could cause a CTD."

    KH faction have no Syracusan ethnicity (or at least it was the case in 1.0 when I played for them) KH has only following ethnicities rhodian, kres (Crete), athenian, spartan, ionian and (forgot the name) ethnicity for the greek around Pontos Euxionos.

    However there is Syracusan ethnicity for Epirotes!
