    Default Polybian Italian Allies

This is a spin-off of the thread on later Polybian armies. Essentially at the time of the Second Punic War and thereafter, almost all Latin/Italian troops were equipped similarly to Roman ones, and performed broadly the same.

However, it's a little boring to simply recruit an almost all-Roman force to represent this, and apparently there are a lot of free spaces in the unit roster (approximately 40). So what I'm proposing is a little mini-mod, the addition of three units to represent Italic troops organised in the Roman manner. Stat-wise they'll be identical, but it gives you recognisably varied armies.

If anyone thinks there should be more, we can discuss that.

I think this could be done with some minor re-working of existing units for skins, rather than someone having to do completely new ones.

    For example:
-For "Italic hastati" you could alter the Bruttian Infantry slightly, to give them a different shield. Or take the Camillian principes, and replace their spear with a sword.
-For "Italic principes" you could take the Samnite Medium Spearmen, replace their shield and spear. This is a harder one since they have to be wearing decent body armour.
-For "Italic triarii" you could take the Camillian triarii and give them a different shield.

Other alternatives for mail-armoured units to steal the skin from include the Libyan Heavy Spearman (although they have two greaves and no baldric), or Thorakitai (again two greaves, possibly better for triarii, Ptolemaic or Koinon Hellenon variants look the most Roman).

Would anyone be interested in this? More importantly, is there anyone out there with the technical nous who'd be happy to do the work?

Also, would this be saved-game compatible?
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR

Actually, all o these suggestions require modelling which isn't worth it. I suggest using another mods units and putting them in.

Oh, fair enough. Are there any older skins that could be used? Or would it just be easier to get permission from another mod to use theirs?

I think it would be easier to ask for permission to use other models than to do it yourself. We can ask King Louise, his mini mod, Reign of Ares had a number of roman italic allies units we can use.

    Cheers.

Is this the mod you're talking about?

It's got some really cool looking alternates:

It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)

QuintusSertorius what do you think . First we must ask King Louise for permission, than someone to make this mini mod.

    Cheers.
