Every poll on the org seems to include this as an option.
I presume this is an org in-joke (and apparently I'm not "in" enough to get it).
Where does this custom come from and when is it appropriate to cast my vote for "Gah!"?

Good question, hmm. One of the veteran veterans will have to handle the where-did-it-come-from question. It seems like it was here when I started frequenting the Org around 2002, but no idea where it came from.
As for when it's appropriate, it's appropriate whenever you feel like it's appropriate. Gah! is the world's first entirely self-determined abstract exclamation (don't ask me to say that five times fast).

I know the MP Crew at .Net Was saying "Meh!" in responce to GAH!, lastedbut GAH is the winner! Strange saying, but fun

I found this somewhere, is this true?Gah is a slang word on the .Org and was invented by the Senior Member Vanya in the .Org earlier days. It originally stood for "Get-A-Head"......
I always took it to mean 50/50, or "ah, I don't know/care".

Yep, I quite sure, but not 100% certain, that it's true. I believe it evolved from a bunch of old Shogun: Total War campaign stories. I can't seem to be able to dig them up though - sorryOriginally Posted by Quintus.J.Cicero
From what I can gather, the word has gradually evolved into this meaning, but, as said, the classical meaning was "get a head". I think this usage lives on in occasional references to "head soup" in the Frontroom.Originally Posted by Spartan198

GAH! is an old .org thing. It's become kinda like Meh!, only Gah! has a much stronger implication (the g is a much rougher sound you see.). I'm not exactly where where Gah! started, but Vanya did a lot to further it's use here at the .org.
Vanya would use it constantly at the start and end of each of his posts, of which were normally hilarious as he talked about himself in third-person and threatened to make others a part of his head soup; or in rare cases offered them a bowl.

I know what "Gah" means and I use it frequently (I sometimes use it in real life as well), but I find it difficult to explain.
It can be used like "Meh", but to me, it has a stronger sound then "Meh".
To get a better understanding of the true meaning of "Gah", just follow the link in my sig and post "in."

I'm onto your ruse, sir!
The original classic meaning was indeed "get a head" -- or something to that effect anyway (it tended to lose something "in translation", so to speak) -- but the word has since evolved so that's it's now more usually invoked to express confusion, consternation, and/or "I don't know/not sure".
As Monk said, the use of "Gah!" was greatly furthered by Vanya, one of the Org's more...interesting (and hilarious) members. Ever since then, the term has become a hallowed part of Org tradition.![]()

Meh, I always believed that the Gah! option was used when you could not vote in the alternative options. Thus when someone has said "You missed out the option [such and such]" they add "Gah!" meaning something like "This really annoys me". or something like that.
If that makes much sense.

I have an off-topic question that kinda links up with "Gah!".
What's with "Cashews and Milk"?

AntiWarmanCake likes cashews and milk, so he puts it in his sig, adds it as an option in every poll he creates and inserts it at random in his postsOriginally Posted by Spartan198

Well I've been on .org for quite a while and this is the first I've heard his name. Though from what has been said I'd really like to read a few of his post. Time to look him up and any post he's posted in
