I guess violent extremist nutters are alike, no matter what political ideology they manifest. Some people are always looking for an excuse to beat others and riot and there is always people willing to organize them.
Kind of hard to imagine what goes on inside the individual German riot police officers head´s when they have to take on both these fellows and neo nazi skinheads in turns and then occasionally go between the two when they go against each other.

Yep makes me glad I didnt chose law enforcement as a career. I would be more inclined to let the knuckleheads duke it out, but that doesn't prevent the riot from spreading - often has the opposite effect - it grows.

Not a job I envey being a police officer especially when faced with two extreme groups.

Following Thursday's violence, Hamburg Interior Minister Udo Nagel and the police union GdP sharply criticized the decision of a local upper administrative court to invalidate a police order prohibiting the right-wing and left-wing protest marches from coming into direct contact with each other.

"We knew we had to expect violence," Nagel told the mass-circulation daily Bild. "The police had developed a plan, but it was undermined by the court." Nagel described the court's decision as "irresponsible," adding that "the judges didn't just expose police to the worst dangers, but also people who hadn't even participated."
