Default Interactive AAR, the FAQ and preparation topic

    Hi guys

With an incredible delay, but the start is near!

In this topic, you can FAQ me or discuss/suggest any questions you might have concerning the AAR and it's rules.

I furthermore intend to 'auction' my FM here.
I'll quickly stated the available FM's.

I'll be only taking Dentatus as my own for now, and act as a dictator for the first year (4turns). Why so short (elected consuls will normally play 8 turns) you ask?

Well, my FM is old and withered, and tbh I want to share the experience asap with everyone else :)

HOW TO GET A FM? (since I have only 3 to hand out)

reply here with a short motivation why I should give you one, and mention which one you'd like to have.
If you have done AAR's on the forum, plz provide the link.
If you haven't, show me your writing capacities in a short motivation note.

In the future there will probably be enough FM to go around, so if you're no shakespear, don't despair!!! I just want to get good peepz to start with, to smooth the beginning :)

bear in mind that Cotta is only 16 years old, and will spend the next 4 years in Rome.
He might act as a military tribine from age 20 (both young FM and old FM players have to agree on this, since the old Fm player will be responsible for the young one when it comes to battles) and can only start commanding a legion from age 30. he 'can' be charged with the care of the alauda wing of the legion to fight rebels though.
(read the guideline of Quintus Sertorius on how a legion will look in this aar, and for roman behavious of FM's when young. All credit to this wonderful guide)

    Alrighty

If you want to grab a FM, suprise me with literary wonders.

For the rest of you, the senate doors will open tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Iron your toga boys, showtime

PS: remember that this topic is also suited for any Q you might have on rules or game mechanics. This way the actual senate topic can run more smoothly with not too much *OOC* going on (out of character).

PS2: we run on rtw.exe, game is H/H with large sized troops.

    bear in

And I breath a sigh of relief.

I read this as I came out of EB to look up place names north west of Tarentum, because I am fighting a battle there for what was going to be a stand-in AAR for this enterprise. I am relieved because I don't quite understand how control of FMs will work.

My starting character is 47 in 272BC, so Cornelius Blasio is closest in age to Albinus. But Albinus is rather more accomplished than my third son of Appius Claudius Caudex is supposed to be (Blasio is already Praetor in this year).

I was going to suggest a separate thread for background and biography. This could then be linked into the 'working' thread, so that everyone's tales are all together and easy to find. Why not make it this one and save a thread?

I shall post later, an introduction to Albinus.

    boah...

you can always give a short intro of ur char on the first post in the 'real topic'.. doesnt do no harm.

besides, that way ppl can look up information about another players character in the thread itself :)

i have no objection against people telling bunch of stories about their character in the real topic... they may even make up their own tales besides the game in the real topic.

As long as it is In-Character.

    No OOC bullshit!

    Default Quisque faber fortunae suae

*What follows is a speech by Marcus Claudius Albinus, already a senator but looking for election to a magistracy*

“Every man is the architect of his own fortune,” that is what my father used to say. And he certainly built his. Only the second Claudius to serve as consul since the decimvir, he not only served as consul- twice, but as censor and dictator- twice. He gave the people new education laws, new roads and an aqueduct. Something never seen before in this city. He was a Claudius through and through and so am I.

10 generations of Claudii stand between me and the first Appius Claudius. And 10 generations stand between any of you and the birth of the Republic. The first Claudius was consul only fifteen years after the expulsion of the kings. If any family other than the hallowed Junii could bodily represent the free city and state of Rome it would that of Claudius.

It is true that my early years were not as noble as my august father deserved. When he went blind, I spent too much time in early mourning at my estate near Alba. How I miss him now. So should you all, because his reproach made you stand against Pyrhhus, instead of kneel before a king.

At father’s funeral, my brother Caius recounted the glories of the Claudian family. How we gave law and order and civil works to the city- for the greater glory of the city. I vowed to take up the toga candida once more and stand for office, because the blood in me burns for Rome.

I stand for order, law and the superiority of Rome over all of Italy. It is our birthright and the duty we owe mother Roma.

Oh my! I was alrady thinkng that the whole idea is dead, so that I have even deleted my "Senator name" from my signature. How weak i my belief I have been!

I will not be asking for a character, as I am quite content with my role as a Senator Vibius Tarquinius Barbatus.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
My grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-grand-father was Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the last roman king, who in his exile in Cumae, Campania, conceived another son (not that rapist Sextus, the disgrace of our noble familia) who in turn became the ancestor of my clan.

With the integration of Campania into newly-born Roman empire, my grand-grand-grand-grand-father moved to Rome and, because of his bravery, wealth and good connections, he succeded in gaining full citizenship for his children and who even entered the senatorial rank.
So nobody should dare to incriminate me for the deeds of the long-gone king, or I will show you that I can be Superbus too

*Senator Vibius Tarquinius Barbatus raises his eyes and looks inquisitively around the Senate Hall. Seeing the contest for magistracies in the full swing he shakes his head and returns back to his newly procured copy of Aristophanes Lysistrata. He grins as he reads throuh the text...

If I would adopt a Family Member, would I still have to make up a character? Or would I just be considered that particular character?
