WAUW - so many saying Epeiros - i have NEVER experienced a great Epirote empire, except once when I conquered Italy and gave it to them ;) - they usually lose their Italian settlement very fast, then go hopelessly in debt and end up either conquered by Makedonia, or protectorate of KH (depending on whether KH or Makedonia wins THEIR war) or get destroyed by Romani. I'm really surprised at these comments - I would like to meet a truly great Epirote empire, BUT I HAVE NEVER TRIED IT

As for strong nations, I'd say Baktria and KH - prolly since I play Seleucids, and I don't allow the Ptollies to grow, but usually leave Baktria alone for too long (since we start as allies and I'm so stoopid I never attack first but wait for them to get ready), and suddenly all former Eleutheroi lands in the east are Baktrian and you have a massive enemy empire to fight ;(
IF kh wins in Greece, KH becomes SERIOUSLY powerful - Strangely, if Makedonia wins, Makedonia merely rules Greece, but they don't become all-conquering madmen like the KH (KH, in my campaigns, usually makes Epirus a protectorate, destroy Getai and invade Easternm Europe and Asia Minor). Makedonia usually destroy Epirus and then lie and wait for some new enemy to appear.....
Moreover, I advise that Syracusans must be added to EB (insp. by Cato the Elder )

Is looking forward to the 2090's, when EB 20.0 will be released - spanning the entire Eurasian continent and having no Eleutheroi - with a faction for every independent state instead. Look out for the Gedrosians, the Cretans and the kingdom of Kallatis!

Do they double in number every turn, or is the splitting in half a problem?

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

Unfortunately that save doen't exist anymore.I started a new campaign a few days after that.
Both the Sarmatians and Lusotanians declared war on me and decimated my armies with numerous multi-stack offensives from both north and south, and I'd made the mistake of emptying out my garrisons in an effort to stop them, especially the Sarmatians ( horse archers!!!).
When Rome fell to the Sauromatae, I knew it was over.

Amen. Problem is that contrary to reports here I have yet to experience them doing anything spectacular... I've never seen them push into Central Europe or South into the Succesor lands. Maybe I was just unlucky? I will rectify the situation myself though.
