Read The House of Seleukos: The History of the Arche Seleukeia
for an in-depth and fascinating history of the heirs of Seleukos Nikator.

General's bodyguard for a good general. I would most likely just be there for show, unless something unexpected occured. It would propably be even better to be a bodyguard for a governor. Being a Sweboz general's bodyguard would propably mean lots of games and drinking. Perfect!

Now the real question: which unit could you actually afford to be in?

Hvil i fred HoreToreA man who casts no shadow has no soul.
I'd probably either be in some Anatolian sheep-fuc-- *ahem* I'd be in some Anatolian skirmisher's or hoplite unit, or a Garamantine unit, OR a Yuezhi unit. Now the real question: which unit could you actually afford to be in?
This space intentionally left blank.
any kind of artillery
the bigger the better
or,
riding the fastest horse, standing on the highest hill, ready to run... tactically withdraw into the densest woods.
If I had something resembling an aim, I'd be a Saka foot archer.
But I'd probably would have ended up as a pet idiot to some nutjob.
Definitely Athenian warship as an oarsman. Nice way of paying one's debts.Originally Posted by abou

Shooting down abou's Seleukid ideas since 2007!
Afford to be in? He, might as well go all the way with this.
Well, for Rome, probably the whole Hastati, Principes, Triarii thingy, I think I´d be counted wealthy enough for that. As for Greeks, maybe a normal Hoplitai, after all, they are drawn from well to-do citizens.
As for the Seleukids, I´d probably be (counting that I´m of Hellenic descendancy) an Pezhetairos, bordering on Prodromos, seeing as how many nobles there were of that kind.
For Ptolemais, the same as the Sele´s, though maybe I´d be an Galatikoi Kleruchoi.
As Makedonia, probably just a Hoplitai or Pezhetairoi, nothing exciting.
For Luso, either Gestikapoinann or Scortamareva.
For Getai, either Tarabostes or Komatai Thorakitai Stratiotai.
For Sab´yn, probably Abbir Ezra'him.
For Pahlava, maybe Dehbed Asavara.
For Pontos, either the normal Hoplitai, the Lonchophoroi Hippeis or If I´m really cool, the Galatikoi Kuarothoroi.
For Sweboz, most likely Herunautoz.
For Sauromatae, I guess I´m bordering on one of the many Noble HA´s.
Same goes for Saka-Rauka, but in Indo-Saka days maybe I´d be an Hoplitai Hellenikon.
As Karthadastim I´d likely be a member of the Carthaginian Citizen Cavalry, as long as I was a Carthaginian citizen, were I Libyan or something else, that would change of course.
As Hayasdan, maybe the Mardig Sooseramartik.
As Epeiros, Hoplitai or Pez.
As Casse, maybe the Botroas.
As Baktria, the Pez or Hoplitai Indohellenikoi seems likely.
And as Aedui and Arverni, the Bataroas.
The Appomination
I don't come here a lot any more. You know why? Because you suck. That's right, I'm talking to you. Your annoying attitude, bad grammar, illogical arguments, false beliefs and pathetic attempts at humour have driven me and many other nice people from this forum. You should feel ashamed. Report here at once to recieve your punishment. Scumbag.
I think it is important to remember just how expensive it is to raise and manage a horse. In Rome there was only one group considered wealthier than those of eques status: those who qualified as senators.
Right now I could probably count myself as a euzonos with a helmet. After I get my DVM I could hopefully afford enough to be an upper-end hoplite. There is one member on the team that, assuming stocks don't keep falling, could probably get away as a heavy cavalryman of some kind.
Of course, historically this all depends on where you are.
An example would be that piss-poor farmer in Hellas could be a full-on phalangite if he migrated to Baktria. Plenty of opportunity, land to have, and bronze for armor is cheap because Baktria had tin mines.
Pedites Extrodinarii all the way man. Funny helmet, badass uniform (minus the helmet) great pay and mama's home cooking when I come from war. Cosa Nostra and all that

Apeleutheroi.. God damn those men get angry.
Most likely I would be part of the Druhtiz Skandzisku (as I am from Sweden)
I would however prefer to be part of the wargonez
