Thread: Super Diplomat

    Default Super Diplomat

Has anyone ever made a 10 star Diplomat? If so, what effect does it have? How persuasive do they get? Can you say, attack a faction on one turn and get a ceasefire and trade rights back in the next?

In all the time I've played TW, I just plowed through the game and my Diplomats never get above 2 stars.

Train them somewhere where your religion is not dominant. Getting them in Jerusalem after a Crusade is an ideal example of this. That way, they will come with traits so they can be maybe five or six stars.

I've had 10 star diplomats before, hard to tell though if it makes a difference since the diplomacy AI is all over the place.

Like CR, I too have had a high ranking diplomat. I think he was 8 or nine stars. It made a difference with bribes but as CR stated, doesn't really matter with diplomacy. The most important thing there is your reputation. Honestly, usually after turn 50 or so I hardly use diplomates anymore unless I want to buy a provence or arrange a marriage.

As far as attacking a faction one turn and getting cease fire/trade rights the next, your reputation is what counts there not the diplomat. If you have a very trustworthy reputation and can get your relations with a faction to so-so, you can get the cease fire. When ever I get a cease fire with the AI they always accept trade rights.

Awesome, I have to give that a try. The turks I think have a few provinces left in the middle east I can send diplomats to. But they have to successfully negotiated something in order to get a star right? Or can they gain traits just by being there?

They get traits just from being there. Traits such as "tolerates other religions", "bilingual" etc, plus retinues such as translators etc

I've found that higher ranked diplomats are able to cajole slightly better results from a deal. You'll notice this at the start of the campaign when reputations are fairly even all round and you're rushing around getting trade agreements, map info and alliances. A one scroll diplomat might get 500 quid for an alliance, whereas a five scroll diplomat might get 500 quid for 3 turns.

The Religious Intolerance traits are a nightmare. Sometimes you'll have nowhere in the empire to train diplomats simply because you've been too effective at spreading your religion. Simply sending a diplomat a long way away from your capital is the easiest way to counter it - he'll get the multilingual traits and translator retinue that way.

Now Merchants get bad traits when trained in a city with Cathedrals, does the same thing happen to Diplomats? Is that where that Religious Intollerant trait is coming from?

No, it's by % of your own religion in the region at creation. 80%+ they get religiously intolerant and 50% down they get religiously tolerant. So create them in a den of heathens for maximum results.

Very nice, Must`! Did you do anything in particular to get those diplomats that much valour?

Nothing specific, bribed few mayan armies and trade rights/alliances, I was surprised too when I saw their stats considering that both are relatively young :). Every army I approached with them was easily bribed, even English one :D
