This is a simple yes/no question of curiosity... Is Alexandropolis in Arachosia present-day Kandahar?

Moreover, I advise that Syracusans must be added to EB (insp. by Cato the Elder)
Is looking forward to the 2090's, when EB 20.0 will be released - spanning the entire Eurasian continent and having no Eleutheroi - with a faction for every independent state instead. Look out for the Gedrosians, the Cretans and the kingdom of Kallatis!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandria_in_ArachosiaAlexandria in Arachosia was a city in ancient times that is now called Kandahar in Afghanistan. It was one of the seventy-plus cities founded or renamed by Alexander the Great. Arachosia is the Greek name of an ancient province of the Achaemenid, Seleucid and Parthian empires. The province of Arachosia corresponds to today's southestern Afghanistan and western Pakistan, the ethnic Pashtun territory.

It would be useful that when you conquer a town, this kind of information was given to us. Indeed we learn nice quotes of Strabo but it would be great that you add some modern information like that.

More or less, yes. I'll bring you a nugget from the internal forums of EBH:

Then Seleuceia should change its name to Ctesiphon with Parthian conquest? I know they weren't ACTUALLY the SAME city, but they were nearby each other, and under the Parthians Seleuceia lost influence as Ctesiphon gained it.. Just a suggestion..
(but then of course EVERYTHING could be changing names all the time and it might get rather confusing...)
Actually think I just suggested it because I like the name Ctesiphon, and not out of any desire for historical accuracy or anything![]()

Does the kandar element come from alexander or is there no connection?

That is a great question. It is perfectly possible; The area was known in Old Persian as Haurâvâtîsh (Arachosia), close to another satrapy, Haraivâ (Areia), and in some strange symbiosis Kandahar (Kanda-Har <-- Sekandara-Hara <-- Alexandreia Arachosia, in very, very vague reconstruction) could indeed mean in rough, paraphrased and abstracted terms "Alexandria in Arachosia". It has certainly been argued for.

It's a good suggestion, but it would be an awful lot of work to create names for all cities in the language of all factions. Much of it would also be guess work.Originally Posted by artaxerxes
Not to mention that changing cities names confuses the EB script, which needs the external name to identify a city.

On second thought I don't wanna suggest it anyway... Just like the name Ctesiphon... But it would be a small aesthetic change, and its cost in the time of the gamemakers + the added size of the EB script wouldn't be worth it...Originally Posted by Ludens
And yes... what would the Sweboz name Seleuceia?

Who says anything about this feature being implemented? It was taken from a discussion thread hypothesizing on possibilities before being smashed by Soviet-volunteered tech-staff
I wouldn't keep my hopes up![]()

If you need some help with additional regional research, I believe that the forum freakies (like me) can help.
For example, I live in Mallorca (Majorica) and I have lots of local history books about the balearic slingers and their culture, and I can bring you some information about the city of Bocchoris (and of course the roman colonies of Palma and Pollentia) if you want.
I think that there are here other guys that live in some cities or regions that also appear in the game, so they could give you some useful information about local history.
