    Default Gamespy help

...I have played for years but not in a while. So Just got my login updated. I have never tried to play M2TW online and now when I go to play it tells me invalid CD key. I have a valid and paid for copy of the game. What am I doing wrong?
    Thx,
    D

Actually the key is not checked when installing the game. Here is what you need to do.

First, close Medieval 2. From the Windows desktop:

    - Click Start
    - Click Run
    - Type regedit and click Ok

This will open the registry editor. In the left-hand pane you will see a list of folders.

    - Double-click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    - Double-click SOFTWARE
    - Double-click SEGA
    - Double-click Medieval II Total War

In the right-hand pane, you will see the game's registry entries.

    - Double-click CDKey

You can now enter your CD Key in the Value Data field. Be sure to enter the CD Key exactly as it appears on the back of your Medieval 2 manual, including the hyphens (-). The CD Key must be entered all in upper-case (capital letters). All 0s are zeroes. The CD Key should take the format:

    12AB-34BC-56DE-78FG

    - Once you have entered the CD Key, click OK
    - Close the Registry Editor

Now start Medieval 2 again and try to connect to multiplayer.
Some people say their CD key is not in that format, but there you go!

pevergreen inc. does not take blame for wrongly made registry entries that may cause your computer to malfunction, crash, get on a plane and then jump out. Batteries not included.

Thank you, I went and checked the registry and the proper CD key is already there. Guess i`ll wait on Gamespy support.

Ok so support suggests the firewall is the culprit so I set M2TW to get thru the wall. Went to look for the GSpy to let that thru the wall also. Stupid question here, when I play multi is it not thru gamespy`s client? I`m not seeing it installed, I thought it installed with the game, but am also not seeing it on the CDs 1 or 2.
