Default I got to proselytize: a blatant musical plug

Okay, I hate to be an advertiser, but I must do this with the utmost of sincerity, because I am pretty sure these guys are the best thing since the Doors, the Stooges and/or blotter acid.

    The Black Angels.

The reason I am posting this is their second record. When I heard their first full-length record in 2007, I will admit I was disappointed; they were not all they I had hoped for or expected. But their second album, Directions to See a Ghost, blew me clean out of the water: it was all I had hoped for in their first album and then some. It's like someone took the Native American Psych Rock of the Doors, the unrelenting Hard Rock of the Stooges, and the thundering Stoner Rock of Black Sabbath and stuck it all in a vicious blender; and then again, it's not quite like anything else you have ever heard. In short, their second album is beautiful.

Please, for your own good, give them a spin and see how you like it.

Defintely sounds like the 13th Floor Elevators*.

And that ain't a bad thing.

(*With a wee hint o' The Doors to boot.)

By pure coincidence they're being played on KCRW, Los Angeles this very moment.

    Well done, sez I.

It's not out in Aus, yet, which bums me out.

Edit: Mission District reminds me of Astronomie Dominie, awesome stuff. Sounds like one hell of an improvement on Passover.

Rhythmic: I actually got the album a month early via digital download. Of course, I don't have an iPod or any such similar infernal machine, so I could only listen to it via computer; but on the other hand, ordering it early gave me the added perk of getting an EP called "Black Angel Exit" when the hard copy of "Directions" arrived. You can't buy it anywhere; it was only offered if you bought the digital edition early. If they weren't offering that in Australia, I am very sorry for you, because "Black Angel Exit" is really far out; it's like the 13th Floor Elevators meets the Stooges. Sorry, man.

Greg: No problem. That's why I'm here.
