Thread: Non-appearance of disasters, diseases etc.

Default Non-appearance of disasters, diseases etc.

    Dear Forum,

In my running Romani campaign (210 BC) I´m conspicuous about the absence of any disasters (earthquake etc.) on the map.
Even my seaport-cities have not experienced the breakout of any disease by now.

Furthermore, I have not received any messages about the carrying-out of olympic or panhellenic games etc.

Is this a bug or intended in version 1.1 ?

    Best regards,
    Marcel

Are you actually supposed to get such messages as the Romani? Far as I know they can't compete in the Olympics, can they?

In any case; you won't get a notice of disasters unless your agents, cities, forts or whatever 'see' them. That is they occur within a region in your 'line of sight'. So a disaster in Venedu Tauta may very well go unnoticed in Roma.

Also; the higher the squalor levels, the higher the chance of plagues breaking out in your city.

Oh, sorry...since I played with Baktria and Macedonia in my former campaigns, I embarrassingly forgot that the Romans have no access to the sporting events of the ancient world

I had much squalor in my bigger cities until now… but not a trace of a disease occurred.
In 0.81 the Vesuvius broke out every 5-10 turns, but in 1.1 the volcano seems to be inactive.
The environment of Rhegion was afloated frequently in 0.81; this time the ocean is “inoffensive”.

I´m just amazed about these facts.

    Regards,
    Marcel

There are still plagues in the game. But I think that water-floods have been removed from it.

    Yeah, that's it!

I guess that in the previous version of EB you had the floods enabled by replacing the original descr_disasters.txt (found in EB\data\world\maps\base) with descr_disasters_floods.txt (just rename the latter into the former). The original disables floods as they may cause a bug where a permanent movement penalty is attached to the region in which the flood struck (as opposed to a temporary one). Or that the flood doesn't go away or some such thing.

You can do the same thing for 1.1; same folder, same files, same trick.

I had quite a lot of plagues happen to me in my last Ptolemaic game... I for sure don't miss the other disasters... the world is better off without them.

I miss the floods, earthquakes and storms.

But I remember that in some TW games the storms usually happened only at the game beginning, and they didn't disturb you anymore.

do the earthquake area's in EB follow(ish) the real earthquake lines in the world? cos i tend to get more earthquakes in places like Asia Minor and such, rather than in mainland europe...just interested to know

Remember, plague can be your friend. Train a spy in that city and send him to have a look at an enemy city, or send him to a settlement of your own that's close to rebelling. If you don't have time to get a large enough garrison there in a hurry (and don't want to "cheat" to remove population), plague is a useful way of reminding people that life under your rule isn't so bad after all . . . for those that survive, at least.

Aye, I agree. It's also something quite in line with having a merciless devious tyranical ruler. Next time I get a plague and I have an evil tyrant for my king I might try to spread the plague all over the world.
