    its a cool old game.

This is Microprose at its best in the primitive gaming era when graphical interface was greatly limited. Sword of the Samurai is a strategy game with a slight delightful mix of action included. As the lowest rank in a chosen Japanese samurai clan, you have to compete with your rivals to gain favoritism. In the process, you have to build up honor, land, sword skills and military strength. Random encounters allow you to fight out with crazy swordsmen, rescue villagers from bullies and defeat enemy troops for your clan. You can even increase honor by marrying a wife with high societal status. Slowly you climb up the clan ladder and hopefully you can get to become the Daimyo of the clan (you can patiently wait for him to get old and die, storm his castle with troops to rebel or even sneak in to assassinate him!) and begin your conquest of Japan. Drilling your troops to perfection, you can eventually emerge as the ultimate Shogun of Japan. If your quest has taken too long, fear not because the game allows you to retire and your son takes over the hot seat. At the end of the game, you will be ranked a score and determined how long your descendants manage to rule Japan. This is a must game for you if you had enjoyed a Microprose game before and yet to play Sword of Samurai. Gamers who hate complexity of strategy games can try this out as the simplicity of this game does not take away any of the fun.

How old is it, and how are the graphics?
I love Shogun because everything is good. I remember playing Dune II on my Amiga 600 and somedays I get really nostalgic about it. I am certain that i would find it stinking if I ever got to play it again though. Time goes, never to return...

Download it, it's only 700k or so, and it provides an evenings entertainment, graphics are fun in their own right.

Could anbody enlighten me a bit on the kes used in this game(or some place to find out)? It seems like a great game, but it's kinda hard without knowing how to do stuff.

Especially the duel and the battle screens.

as I recall numberpad keys to move, enter to select stuff, take a sword stroke and any other action. just play around with the keys until it works

This belongs in OT though, so it's moving HERE
