It seems we've lost the use of prefixes in threads for now. Despite this, I'm going to go ahead and start work on a new history.
I hope I'll be able to edit in a prefix later.

I'm sure Tosa will bring back all the stuff soon enough. I propose we just try to go on as best as possible, and not lose any more time.

Great idea with the Patriarchal challenge. If I had a village I still wouldn't follow it, but a really nice thing. Events don't always have to lead to wholesome destruction on a giant scale, it seems.![]()

I really like the challenge as well. Having a rather high starting piety (5), Kosmas will be attempting to manage it, even if it slows down his hope of getting a port soon.![]()

A quick question : Is there anyway to check that I have the installation working correctly ?
I knew what to look for with FH' KOTR fix but here I'm not sure if the installation is working properly...
The RBG have the proper costs listed but apart from that is there something else I should check ?
Notably, what is the time scale ? 1y/ turn ? 2y/turn ?
Philippe 1er de Francein King of the Franks
I think in earlier versions of SS the time scale was something odd like 1.5 yrs per turn. If you can recruit bodyguards I think that means you have everything installed. Wasn't that one of the changes made?

What if there's a tie between generals?

In a battle ?
In my view, there will be two ways to deal with that :
1- cooperation : agreement between the players.
2- competition : 1st to grab the save fights the battle.
Remember also that some traits may affect the final outcome (siege traits or attacker/defender traits) may break the tie once the assault is ordered.

I thought maybe he was referencing the contest? If so, I think whoever pms TinCow the turn they complete the structures wins.

A tie should allow each general to claim one or the other of the prizes.
The piety rating should give first choice, then the chivalry, the loyalty and finally the command rating.

I doubt there will be a tie. First of all, a lot of people are going to want to build military buildings, not spend half of the first term on less useful structures. Second, buildings only get built if the Basileus allocates the money to your settlement. However, if there is a tie, I will let GH decide what to do. Even though it's my Event, I wanted to implement it in an IC manner and GH was the perfect choice for it.

I'm half asleep while typing this, but I tried doing research on my Avatars name, turns out Kallipoleos refers specifically to Cyprus, and Iakovos means supplanter. Makedonios better beware.
If you haven't already, please get your avatar's SOT entry done.
I'll be printing them out at work after the free move period is done and I will be using those versions while I play. I won't be double checking 30 entries before I play each turn, so if you change your entry, let me know.
Nothing like running the game to get my autocratic streak going.
Edit: The History is now current.

Well, i've finished the Political map. I hope this is good enough to post in the Library, but if there's anything I can change let me know.
Gentlemen of the Order of St John,
I was reading through your house thread and I have to say I disagree with the stance on conducting battles ahead of time.
It was brought up a number of time in KotR and the consensus was that battles should not be "scouted" or played more than once. We have more than enough advantage without general's being able to see the battle field and "set up".
I'd like to therefore make that comment open to all for discussion.
IMO it's a hugely unfair advantage bordering on, and I'm nearly going to use the "ch" word here.![]()
Since the 24 hour move window will close at bed time for me, play won't continue until Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, depending on when I can find free time.

SPY! Seize him!
Yeah, I think I dropped the ball on that one. I simple wanted to give input into the coming battle, and with so much weighing upon it and little prior experience with SS, I decided to simulate the battle in an attempt at gauging possible strategy.
I don't think it is unfair what you have done. The tactics you have described apply to any sally battles and the things PK has discussed apply to any sieges where the forces are of similar size. I really don't see how that is cheating, so long as the battle isn't replayed in order to gain more favourable results I can't see anything wrong with playing around with the save.
I think planning strategies, and if you are knowledged, forecasting outcomes (read: do ingame tests) should work, but I would rp it. If you think your avatar would do that, go for it.
On the overall though, I dont like it.
Well my other strategy implored the usage of humor and bait, namely have the enemy chase after a handful of your forces while the rest ride in to the settlement and hold the the central square until time is up. Worked every time as the Turks.
LotR being a cooperative but also competitive game, I prefer people to come out of the closet and claim they have played any battle before time rather than have them do it with nobody being the wiser...
I understand that it is best not to do it to keep a bit of surprise to the game but there is no way to enforce a ban on such conduct so I think it is better to allow it but keeping the results to PM or spoilers is best, so as not to runin other's people's game...
Just my![]()

Gentlemen,
Please don't take this too harshly but:
How is play a battle in order to determine postioning, tactics and any other "concepts" based on "tests", not an advantage?
What is wrong with this, is the fact that these "known" parameters are being discussed in order to reduce casualties.
I know many of us have not used SS and the AI that has been programmed into this game, BUT, that is the entire point in my view.
I've never played this SS, ever...but if you let me fight the same battle over and over again I'm damn sure I can reduce my casualties dramatically and even give specific and detailed instructions to the player fighting it, to such an extent it will influence the outcome, THE first time he plays the battle.
Of course no one can stop this and it is clear this is an honour system, but if any of you are interested in a "Good" game I would strongly recommend everyone avoiding these types of actions.
@ YourLordandConqueror: Please don't take this as entirely directed at you. Testing is fine in my view. Hell, I'm as curious as you can be to find out how good or bad I will be in this game. But I'll adjust my tactics and strategy accordingly until I find out how things behave in this game. I will test but I'll do it in my own campaign or one off battles, not actually playing the battles in this game. I'm using your much milder example and exaggerating it to make my point. Please let me know via PM if I've gone to far.
If you let me see the terrain, just once, if I play that a second time I'll be better, and please note I'm not a FactionHeir freaky good player...just above average at best.
I agree with you totally AG...
But there is simply no way to check if anybody is playing battles beforehand or not... So I prefer very much if people refrain from doing it but if they can't stop themselves, better for them to be clear about it...
No personal attack intended either...
Philippe 1er de Francein King of the Franks
None taken, honest, I'd rather be told I was doing something wrong or unfair then just let it continue, works better for everyone that way![]()
