If I'm playing as Pontos, at the beginning of the battle the same music always starts up, with the trumpets and cheering. It's rather annoying because it's so loud compared with everything else, so I usually just turn my music off for battles.
MP, the game's music is actualy quite easy to modify yourself. EB/data/descr_sounds_music. Always keep a backup though!

Depends on the mood, sometimes I listen to the game's original soundtrack (especially when playing a barbarian or Eastern faction), sometimes I listen to my own myoozics, most often metal, or rarely classical (classic rock, reggae and jazz just... don't fit the game that well, not to even talk about trance, ambient or whatever).
