A senior member is a title of sorts pointing out a member who has made a significant contribuation to the Org. The staff selects a 6 or seven every once in a while. The only benifit they get is an increased PM box.

Junior member to member is automatic, Senior Members, as DoH/LW said are appointed by the staff in around 10 a year.
I'm not sure of the increase in PM box size, mine was 500 before I was promoted.
Senior Membership is an honourific given to certain members of the community who have made an oustanding contribution to the community. These helpful and considerate members are always active to help those in need and give their carefully thought out opinion on any topic.
Im sure thats what some FAQ would say.
