What exactly is a Vcard? I know you can download it on a persons public profile but what is it?

Sorry, maybe I don't know a better word for it, and maybe it's a different thing here. I mean those credit card sized pieces of cardboard paper you can hand out to friends, family and contacts. It's not really restricted to business.
