What did you think of the science SAT tests this year? I reckon the first was simple, wheras the second was a complete annoyance. I forgot how to work out sound, turning moments and other things like that, whats ur opinion????

Wait, is this the UK one or the American one? I'm always confused by that
I did the UK SATs last year, got level 7 in Science.
The UK, I believe.
Blimey, are those still around? I thought they'd been phased out by now.

I heard they been scrapped in Wales, not sure about the rest of the UK..
think i had all level 6's back in the day....

English: level 7
Maths: level 8
Science level 7
You can get an 8 in year 9 sats ?!

Yes, only in maths though I think.
what did you have to take the test blindfolded whilst standing on your hands ? ;)
Is it a special seperate paper you took ? Back when i did it the higher paper was between 5-7 (or it could be 4-7)

I think higher tier is level 6-8 for maths![]()
Do you know if this was a recent change because i could swear all the cleverest pupils did the 5-7 back in my day....?

I have no idea![]()
Done mine last year. Just made it to the 7. Got 8 in maths and 6 in English... Got 3 GCSE tests next week... Gotta revise![]()
I only got 2 GCSE test next weekBut also a piece of courswork is due

I remember waaaaay back in the day when I did mine, level 8 was a separate paper which not every school entered its pupils for. This was 10 years ago though, so may have changed since then. If this is the case though then you have nothing to fear if your school didn't do them, since I believe all they determine is what sets you will be in for your GCSE classes. Of course this is pretty important, but since you are only competing against your own schoolmates, you aren't disadvantaged by not doing the level 8.
For the record, my school let me sit the level 8 paper for all three, but then we were very much the "guinea pig" year who were the first to have any new hair-brained educational initiative tried out on us, I suppose because they reasoned our education was already ruined and thus they couldn't do any more harm.

you still have coursework to hand in! What board is that with? All of my coursework had a deadline of around 6 months before now, except art but that doesn't count. And I can top you all with 5 GCSE exams next week, I had three in one day last weekOriginally Posted by shlin28

Anyway back to topic, SATs really should be phased out, they are utterly pointless and far too easy![]()
Well... technically the coursework is due March next year, but my teacher wants us to hand it in this year
Last week, I had 1 on Tuesday, 1 on Wednesday and 2 on Thursday, and I'm only in year 10! I dread what would happen in year 11![]()

I got 6, 8, 7 in English, Maths and Science respectively.
Found out the level 6 in English was one mark off a level 7. Annoyed me at the time, but they're wholly unimportant in the long run.
Its called Canada.

For those who don't know what in the world I'm talking about: Canada doesn't have SAT's

Probably it then, i took them some 8 years ago.
I was like 4 marks off a level 7, got put into top set anyway so it didn't matter...

Way back when... must be 4-5 years ago now, that is what I got.Originally Posted by Shlin28
Yes, the maths one was a separate 'advanced' paper that not every school enters students for. In our school year of 300+ students, 34 had the chance to do it.

Whoah your sitting some of your exams in Yr10? You are crazyOriginally Posted by shlin28

The only exam I sat early was a module of A lever maths when I was in year 9, only got a C though.
Yeah my school is crazy, its all supposed to "alleviate exam pressure" next year, but I think they just want to keep us busy...
Why would take that A-level module anyway?
That is pretty nasty. It means that if you do A-levels and go to uni, you will have exams every summer from Yr 9 until your final year at uni, so that's every year for 9 years. That's enough to send anyone funny in the head.
I think rather than scrapping SATs it would be better to get rid of the AS exams, I remember it was a total pain having to worry about exams whilst you were still adjusting to A-level standards, plus the fact that they had to cram 3 terms worth of material into 2 terms of teaching meant half of us failed them. At least SATs serve some purpose in giving you experience in sitting exams before you have to do one which really matters.
Just remembered, I also took IT short-course GCSE test + coursework, and 2 modules of GCSE science in year 9...Whoah your sitting some of your exams in Yr10? You are crazy![]()
And that was on top of SATs... My school hates me![]()
agreed, i'v had exams for the last 5 years already, and am really fed up of themOriginally Posted by Poor Bloody Infantry

SATs are not too useful really, (i think) they are more for govt educational figures more than anything else, they even make kids do them in year 3 at primary school... you can do internal mock exams to practice for 'real exams' in year 10 + 11, instead of a potentially pressured exam in year 9

I agree with you, SATS should be scrapped. They don't mean anything.Originally Posted by Scurvy

The teachers have told us that the SAT's are to do with the government and may slightly influence what sets we are put in next year, but it is a bit of an odd time to have SAT's, just when we cant be bothered with school anymore![]()
Oh well
