Thread: Crusades keep moving back and forth?

What is the deal with crusades?

The Spanish had one and moved to one of my spaces which of course took a lot of my men. On the very next turn the crusade moved BACK to its original territory(Castille). About 5 turns later it moved back to my territory and took more men.

Aren't you supposed to move towards your goal(in this case it was Syria)??

FIXED IN PATCH or so they say.
In the mean time, just treat them as huge army eaters and if you can afford it fight them, then kill that idiot pope.

I think the logic is they collect men until the AI thinks they can capture the target province but why they are not restricted in movement like human crusades, i.e. actally move towards the target rather than back and forth in the wrong direction. IMHO they should move directly to the target and keepattacking the province depite the odds being against them. Too often they sit on a hevily defended border for 20 years till they die a natuaral death.

I hope the patch fixes more than just a pathfinding bug with AI crusades. The Spanish had one making the rounds (3 times through Venice Austria Bohemia) on its way to Finland!! The sad part is, after it got around 2000 men, it died before it could get to those lousy 700 peasants and archers in Finland. Fine, take a few of my armies (I move em around now to try and get it to move on to its goal) but for the love of Jesus, go take the objective!

I was allied with the HRE. They set out a crusade against Palestine. They parked themselves in Venice. I figured I'd beat them to the punch, in hopes of taking the province before them.

So, I attacked the Egyptians. I worked my way down the Med. coast. I also decided to do an amphibious landing in Egypt, to head off any adventurism by the Almohads. Of course, that meant defeating the Egyptian fleet.... (Actually, thinking back, I was already at war with the Egyptians. I took several provinces, before the HRE started their crusade...)

So, I killed off the Egyptian fleet. Next turn, the HRE crusade jumped from Venice to Palestine. Yep, as I was at war with the Egyptians, my fleet was blockaded. As soon as the way was clear, the HRE bypassed my armies in Serbia, Bulgaria and/or Greece, Constantinople, and so on down to Palestine.

So, maybe the computer's pathfinding had determined that my extensive trade network of ships was the quickest way to Palestine, and waited in Venice until I so nicely cleared the way for them....
